Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has ordered the cancellation of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has ordered the cancellation of all New Year celebrations on Wednesday as an act of solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Good job im a grumpy sod when it comes to new year and cant be bothered with it!

My guess it is purely for outdoor celebrations i.e. fireworks, loud music etc.

Check with hotels to see whats still on.

Maybe I've misinterpreted the haha bit, Asterix, but the point is this one is a little closer to home, literally and metaphorically.

Having laid on a $20m party a month ago at a time when the rest of the world is reeling economically, I think it would be the height of callousness had Dubai carried on partying through the massacre taking place in Gaza right now.

Quality decision from The Management, for once, if you ask me.

Fair enough - but apparently it was fine when Hamas & Fatah where killing each other. Depends on the aggressor, am I correct?

Regardless whether the decision to temper the celebrations for the new year in solidarity was correct or not, it was implemented in a completely chaotic way - the 'management' managed it extremely badly.

I wonder if the average person in Gaza slept better last night knowing that Dave from Croyden wasn't dancing the evening away. Why didn't the Government levy a 5% add-on to everyone's bill and send aid. No one would have complained and it could have done some real good for the people.

Then they could ask Hamas exactly what they thought the results would be after the rocket attacks on Israel. I care not for the politics, however, there are ways and means and direct aggression is simply not the way. I might send a copy of Sun Tzu's instruction manual.

The loss of life is simply not needed, a complete waste but became inevitable.
