Well you wont be supporting our parasitic Government so will have no NI/Tax/Council Tax etc to pay....we were coming back for 3 weeks every 17 to stay clear of that so it does help to save
Well, you will have N.I. to pay for the first year, then you can drop back to Class 3. IIRC that is, I'm still being fcensoredd for N.I. contribs (and tax - but that's a different story).

Is there nothing in the UAE Ric? It's more of a halfway house wink

Makes sense to me bud, work is work.

What ties you specifically to retail? I'm not familiar with the sector at all.

I believe SBM in Monaco are hiring at the moment and rates are ok. decent tax regime too.

Bit of work around in Qatar too, nicer than Saudi...

what ties me to retail? only about 10 years experience

have resi, exhibition, commercial and some civils experience

the problem is so many others with more experience in other sectors are looking for work in theie sector naturally means their CV is more suited

might head off back into the world of PM or split dicipline

If you're resident in Saudi then you're completely tax free...provided you qualify for tzx free status under HMRC rules. Effectively that's being away for a whole tax year (April 6th until the following April 5th). During that time, you can be back in the UK (but not working) for a maximum of 90 days in that year. If you're away for more than 1 year, you can be back for a maximum of 183 days in a year, but no more than an average of 90 days per year for the whole time you're away.

Make sure you keep your flight tickets, accommodation details and dates so you can prove you were away for those dates.

Non stop to LHR on Saudi Arabian Airlines (excellent airline) cost £450 in January.

Highly recommend the InterContinental Hotel.

Seems to be a lot of work about but the rates aren't great. £30-40/hr seems to be the range for new contracts. Hope mine doesn't get terminated here eek

speaking to a number of agents it seems the days of the consultants pretty much naming their price are well and truly over - the practices have essentially created a cartel which none of them are going to break due to the amount of experienced people looking for work

whilst there is a fair amount of work out there I'm looking at a drop in rates between 25%-35% if I accept a contract now

I'd rather wait until the autumn than lock myself in to something like that

Yep, £60-70 was the norm up here in 2007/2008 and they maxed out then. Not seeing any jobs around with that kind of rate in the UK now.

Mind you, oil price up at $70-ish and has been for a week or so, with a bit of luck it'll climb a bit more and stabilsie and thinss can get back to normal.

Like you say, it would be a real bugger to sign a £45/hr contract now to miss out on maybe another £15-£20 extra within 6 months.
