My DEWA bill was just under AED 1,000 last month and this month it has gone to just over AED 3,000.

We may have used a touch more water but certainly no more electrity and that alone has doubled!

I don't suppose there is any debating with these people and having them review it? Suppose I'll have tpo go to their office and enquire. Great - another wasted morning of speaking with numbnuts.

Have you checked that the previous months were not just 'estimates' and that you have now been invoiced for the units making up the balance?

Also, the charges are on a tier system so the more you use, the more you pay for each unit.....

Called the customer care number and the helpfull fella there said that historically the villa has had a bill of between AED 1k - AED 1.5k, so that would seem about right for the previous bills.

We've only been there 3 months so far with the June bill of just over AED 800 (we weren't there for the whole month), July bill of AED 990 and now the August AED 3k bill!

AS per his instructions, I have emailed them explaining the situation, they will have the meter checked, replaced if necessary and my account amended as necessary - or, the meter is fine and I have to settle the bill.

Oily - btw - we have exactly same unit that you have your telly on, with the drawers - must be a Marina jobby smile

Not sure where you you live but there was a spate of this happening a few years ago in the Springs/Meadows area. The water tanks are underground and are controlled by a toilet style float valve system. Due to the amazing standard of workmanship and parts these would stick in the open position so that the tank would constantly fill and then overflow.

But because the tanks are underground and the overflow vents underground as well, there is no way to tell until 1) your garden subsides and 2) you get a...wait for it....9000Dhs water bill!

You can argue the case and you'll probably find they correct it in your favour.

I got cut off a few weeks back as they said I owed 900Dh from the previous couple of months. I asked them where it had came from as my bills are paid on time and to the full amount every month. They checked in to it and then apologised saying it was 90Dh that was missed from the month before after they had done a meter reading so they said sorry and sent someone out to turn it back on.

Its Dubai st happens hehe

That's sounds horrendous but I suppose there was nothing to be done - the developer would have washed their hands of the whole thing I'm assuming.

I'm in Barsha 2 and the tank is on the roof - keeping the 'cold' water at a nice 40C :Hehe: obviously employing the tricks of using cold for hot and turning of the water heaters for cold.

Let's see what happens.

Oh yes developer not interested, landlord not interested and DEWA didn't care as long as we fixed the leack and paid the bill.
