Slow shutter speed, not to everyones taste but I enjoy this style, almost looks like a chalk drawing, its a challenge especially when the weather is dull, dark and hammering it down!

I really like that style too!

I always think that to take a perfectly crisp picture is to document the car/bike, to make it look like it's going quick is to document the event. Or something like that - I know what I mean. That's not to say a crisp picture doesn't give the sense of speed. Christ, I'm confusing even myself now hehe

Chevron and I have discussed this before on here - I love the really early motoring photography where wheels are distorted looking. They just make it look so action-packed smile

Really not sure if this is relevant or interesting at all but I'll persist!

My dad and I are currently touring around Europe, the purpose of the trip being to visit the Belgian and Italian Grand Prix with Goodwood Revival to close everything off. I've shared a couple of shots from Spa but thought these might be of some vague interest. I'm afraid they feature yours truly!

This was my first ride in a pre-war car. The owner of the hotel we stayed in near Spa was a car nut and owns this immaculate 1938 MG K-Type racer. He took me for a quick spin around the Belgian lanes - an amazing experience.

Then we proceeded on to the Nurburgring where we did the tour of the place. Only had a couple of hours but just long enough to snatch a shot of dad's car outside the main concourse.

Finally I had the opportunity to spectate on the circuit which has fascinated me since I was a kid - the Nordsleife. We watched a group of extremely committed Porsche owners. Wow - that place is something else and this view was accessible from the highway, you just park up and watch.

Sorry none of this relates to club racing but it's all motor sport one way or another!
Looks like a fun trip! Pre-war stuff's great fun - nothing beats the smell of oil and leather and the clatter of valve gear - I grew up being carted about in the sidecar of a 20s motorbike (in the 80s, I'm not that old!) and I love that era!

And they're all motorsport related - and you've basically kept this thread alive so carry on! I've got some club pic's from the weekend to sort out later, so I'll bung them up soon.

Got my tickets for the Goodwood Revival earlier in the week too. First time I've been for the whole weekend for a few years - should meet for a beer and talk Exiges smile

Great pictures and write up mate. I've put a couple of mine up in the Goodwood picture thread, but I'm going to put the rest up in here. It's just a case of getting time to go through the 500(!) I managed to snap!

The little BMW 700 was the car - well, performance - of the event for me smile

Right, finally getting to sort through my pictures! Batch one from Goodwood Revival. They're not all car related, but hopefully show what a great weekend it is smile

Great pictures mate. But this car has me totally stumped; what is it?
It's an Alfa Romeo Aerodinamica Spider. I only know as it had me stumped too, so I researched it when I got home. Fascinating thing smile

It was at the Festival of Speed a couple of years ago. At Goodwood it practiced (very slowly indeed) but didn't race. A wonderful piece of history and perfectly indicative of how much clout Goodwood carries for participants. I believe JSW carried out the restoration work on the car.
Yeah it really did look quite frighteningly slow, coming out of the chicane he was in the middle of the track with cars coming either side of him. As you said though, still great to see!

I'm only about halfway through my photo's still, I'll hopefully get some more sorted at the weekend... although the 750MC are in town scratchchin

I've still not written up the whole of my trip around Europe. Had two events in mind this weekend and likely now to do neither. I look forward to seeing what you come up with of the 750MC guys!
I'll have to see, it's on Sunday and there's a pre-1931 motorbike road event on that my dad's riding on. I may just find where they're going and sit on the side of a lane somewhere and snap them instead. Be a bit of a change smile

I'd prefer to see the number of photos per post to be a little lower tbh, a handful is enough..
Scroll quicker then hehe

I don't host mine on flickr or anywhere that I could link to, so I just post a selection from the day.

You may want to look away now laugh

These are some from Cadwell last weekend. I've posted them in Biker Banter too, so appologies if people see them twice, I just thought some on here may like something a bit different smile

Far too many.. If anything it makes me look at the thread far less often frown
I'm sorry mate, I just don't see your logic there! The idea of the thread is to show random photo's being snapped by us amateur photographers who spend their weekends on the banks of circuits around the country.

Had I posted three pictures of classic bikes and a link to a website with the rest, would those who aren't overly interested (other than a passing interest in all things mechanical!) have bothered to look?

Nope they wouldn't and that's the point, it's just a bit of fun and a way to both show off your photo's, get chatting and look at things you may not see in glossy magazines/websites.

With all due respect I really can't see how there can be too many photo's, unless you're on a hooky dial up connection and struggle to load the page smile

Go for it.

In the early days of the thread we had several people recognise themselves from pic's and ask for copies, and that was part of the reason the thread was started smile

Ladies, stop it. Petty bickering is kept in general gassing.

A happy medium would be say 15 pictures max, or maybe more with a full on written up report to keep it entertaining.

(although my internet is really quick so I don't have any issues wink)
Who's bickering?

I'd prefer to see as many pictures as possible, that's all. It's what the thread was started for and it's what's kept it alive and thriving smile

Nice pics!

I'm guessing you've played about with them in Photoshop? I'm starting to have a little play on there with mine, it's amazing how different you can make an image look by sliding a few things about (as technical as I get hehe)!

Is that a Type 30? If so, the yellow Classic Team one makes my eyes rattle when it's going around the test track!

And how pretty is the little Elite cloud9

It sure is! I think there are three currently out in historics. The yellow CTL one, the BRG above and a white one campaigned by Matthew Watts. Poor Skylinecrazy had to listen to me waffle endlessly about nonsense all Saturday afternoon. loser
hehe

Did I mention we had a private tour around CTL a couple of months ago? As a thanks for all the 'can you justs' we do for them.

The yellow one was in there, in all it's glory smile

Happy to help.

Random one I just uploaded. Race of Champions - Wembley 2007.

I've always fancied going to the Race of Champ's - was it good?

And stumbling across the random rally reminded me of when I was a kid. We went on a family holidy to Jersey, and their annual hillclimb just happened to be on. As I'm sure you know, Jersey's not shy of a few wealthy people so there was some real exotica. Will have to see if I can find any old photo's when I'm next at the old man's smile

Just to keep the thread moving...Jean-Eric Vergne during his British F3 title campaign in 2010.

It's cool when you remember a 'star' from their early days. I once saw Casey Stoner as a 14 year old on a plain red Honda RS125 racing at Snetterton smile

I'm off to Snett tomorrow to see the Elises racing. Hopefully, if a) I'm not too hungover and b) it's slightly better weather than East Anglia's experiencing today!

Nice smile

I remember that era of GT racing with fondness too. I remember going to Snetterton and, whilst paying to get in seeing a tower of black smoke coming up from around Corrum. We drove around and (from memory!) a Blue Chorral (sp?) GT1 Porsche was mid burning-out!

I think it was probably that same day that a McClaren F1 spun coming out of Russels and got stuck between the barrier and the curb, which was too tall for him to get back over. He did about a 100 point turn, much like a very expensive version of the scene from Austin Powers where he gets stuck in the corridor in a golf buggy hehe

Yeah, I know Nick pretty well! Sorry, I don't know how I missed that post hehe

We've done the odd 'can you just' on some bits of that car - I'll point him in the direction of this thread when I see him smile

I rather imagined that might be the case! It's beautifully presented but I understand it's taken years to get to that standard. I'm sure he'll enjoy the thread but once he starts at page 1 he won't be able to stop so warn him to leave plenty of browsing time!
Haha, that's very true! Was he racing at the Revival this year then - or did they do the Dan Gurney thing last year too?
