Hello PH'ers

I'm looking to start circuit racing after finally doing a few sprints over the years.

I have a 1985 Ralt RT30 F3. My issue at the moment is that I'm looking for what tyres to use for the series, because I have been sprinting I only have Avons super soft compound.
Currently my tyre sizes are
Front - 180/550R13
Rear - 250/570R13

What do most Mono guys use? I'm thinking I could probably use the F3 cup tyres which I believe are
Front - 200/540R13
Rear - 250/575R13

I'm just testing the water within circuit racing at the moment and I dont want to buy brand new tyres just to get me started I'd like some used ones.
Can anyone point me in the right direction on where to look or get tyres suitable?

Early F3 ran on crossply tyres ..AVON from BMTR ....
later used radial tyres . so big camber change on fronts

I recommend you ask this question on the Monoposto club forum as well.

There will be people on there who, I suspect, have had the same conundrum.

Where are you based? You may find they are racing near you soon, so just pop along and ask some competitors in similar machinery?

plus you get to see some great racing.

Everyones a winner!

Thanks for the replies guys.

Well I'm based in Nottingham right now.
I wanted to maybe compete in the Oulton park event end of this month but if I can't find tyres i'll have to wait for the donington park one

You could try a 'wanted' ad on the Monoposto forum 'wanted' area; F3 is very popular in Mono and the F3 Cup has got great grids this year, so there's a good chance someone will have some tyres to sell you. Your post on the Mono forum isn't entitled 'tyres', so may not have been read by many people. I must confess though, it's not a very active forum.

When I was looking for tyres for my FRenault I didn't get any replies to a wanted ad both on the Mono forum and Race Cars Direct (which is somewhere else you should try), but once I started contacting teams directly I discovered an almost limitless supply of secondhand tyres! So that's another route for you: find out team names and contact them directly. Motorsport's funny in that whilst there's almost nothing on the web about it, there's a whole network of people out there you can ring up to find parts, tyres etc and everyone seems to know each other.

BRDC F3 and F3 Cup use the same Pirelli tyre - although there has been a slight change of tyre specification which is trickling out. Same sizes but either different compound or construction.

BRDC F3 teams use tyres at a faster rate than F3 Cup.

F3 Cup generally use them for Qualifying, 2 or 3 races and then use the last of the goodness testing for the next event, possibly scrubbing in a set of new boots in the afternoon. Mono drivers would do the same or stretch them to last two weekends depending on budgets.

Your Ralt was probably designed around crossply tyres, so switching to radials would require some thought about spring rates and revised geometry, both in terms of getting the tyre to work, the car to handle and to pass the 40mm ride height requirement.

I have tried to message you but, your settings won't allow it.
Perhaps give me a call regarding tyres
