P.s. how long is a full season (how many races)
Thanks!
Generally run from April to October. We normally do 7 events / 14 races, but this year has been 6 / 12. Thanks!
I race in Sports 1000, it is a fantastic championship. BTCC rivalling lap times, proper motorcycle engined sports prototype race cars with sensible cost controlling measures.
Here's a flying lap onboard my Spire at croft this year to get you moist

Appreciate this is an old thread but hoping I can get a couple of answers I can't find elsewhere.
I recently got a 718 GTS and have been loving the track days. However the must fun you can have in a car is, I now realise, competing. So...
1. I can't afford to race the Cayman but would really like to stick with rwd and a decent amount of power (400bhp+)
2. I don't have a decent place to store a car (small driveway), will this matter.
3. It's just me! Do I need a pit crew, how does all that work? I'm not a mechanic but happy to learn although space issue (2) isn't ideal.
Any help appreciated. I'm very new to all of this but keen to do more...
Can’t help with the super powerful rear drive stuff (I race in 750mc type r trophy) awesome but front wheel drive and 220bhp max.I recently got a 718 GTS and have been loving the track days. However the must fun you can have in a car is, I now realise, competing. So...

I store car in trailer in my garage but I know of people who keep theirs in storage for £50 p/m.
I started just on my own too and am useless with a spanner. The team that built my car support me (and others) at each race and as such they fully look after it and it’s brilliant. Clearly it’s much more expensive than DIY but not only can they fix anything on site they will also set it up properly which is very valuable. Whatever series you find I’m sure they’ll be a motorsport team that builds a few and runs a few cars for that series- ask around the paddock of whatever series you wish to enter.
If you’ve not raced before I’d suggest easier stuff to kick off with. I’m still very new and started in a Ka! Which I still do and now the civic. I still have loads to learn but picking up race craft in slower but fun machines seems to be easier than jumping into a rear wheel drive monster (maybe one day for me!)

I would say that the season normally is between March and October although I have raced in November once, and there are the occasional winter meetings such as the Plum Pudding meeting at Mallory Park on Boxing Day.Thanks!
Different clubs will have a different number of events in their series/ championship - CSCC normally has about 10 meetings, roughly one a month, but you don’t have to commit to doing them all.
Depending on the car you race, and the eligibility criteria, it may be possible to mix and match between clubs and just do a few races in your relatively local area rather than chasing all round the country.
Some clubs will have qualifying and 2-3 races over a full weekend, other clubs will generally just run single day meetings. You have to do some research.
The main clubs are:
BRSCC, BARC, CSCC, 750mc, MSVR, HSCC (for historics), MGCC (for mainly MGs) etc, although there are several others, inc a few regional ones such as D&DMC
Have a google and look at the series they run. Go along to some club meetings and talk to to people in the paddock, join their FB pages and engage, everyone will be friendly and helpful in my experience. If you ring up the CSCC office and chat to them and tell them you are looking to find out more, then they may offer you a courtesy ticket to a meeting to go along and see what goes on.
If you are doing track days, there will inevitably be some racers their in their race cars, go and talk to them.
There are probably well over 100 different race series so it’s important to find out as much info as possible. And when you have done that, come and race a Caterham type car in CSCC, it is awesome!! Lol. (CSCC are at Anglesey this weekend if you are in the NW and are at Silverstone GP circuit on Oct 24, if want to come along for a look.

Thanks for the advice. I hadn't really thought about talking to people with race spec cars (which is a definite miss). Plus a circuit visit is always a good idea!Different clubs will have a different number of events in their series/ championship - CSCC normally has about 10 meetings, roughly one a month, but you don’t have to commit to doing them all.

Likewise, if you want to pop along to a 750MC meeting you will find yourself more than welcome and all the competitors are always happy to chat about the racing and cars. We have an upcoming event at Oulton Park on October 9th if that's anywhere near your base?
If you want any more info drop James @750MC a email: james.winstanley@750mc.co.uk, as a prospective racer he may even be happy to sort you out with some tickets.

Good car that, you planning on bringing it back out in Supersports next year?
Thanks Dan, it’s been progressing really well this year and great fun to drive.Still making plans for next season but I am hoping that I can at least dip in to the BRSCC stuff again if they do a full calendar of Endurance races.

I was also thinking about competing in the Club Enduro series with my M4.
However, after attending the race @ Oulton Park at the weekend, I'm not sure how fair the series is, with people running full blown TCR race cars against converted road cars. The time delta's were massive (3+ secs per lap) which means that if you don't have a TCR car, its unlikely you'll be able to compete for a place on the podium.
