Not just the same series it was the same actual race. It's why the restart with the Escort crash was only five minutes long.

The escort was clearly alongside and pulling ahead when there was still a gap so if the gap was closing it was the BMW's fault for closing it. When you can clearly see a car alongside the passenger door it's time to stop moving in that direction.

Ah OK! That makes a bit more sense. Seems one of the drivers is still in hospital actually.

Rod did an interview for the BBC on Monday, I'm presuming he contacted them as the BBC don't normally turn up to report on crashes at Brands Hatch at any level.

The Astra & Mini crash were a father & son, also a Mitsi Evo crashed into the pit wall coming onto the straight, driver also had to go hospital.

Birley was scheduled to do an interview with the BBC the day before the race due to the UK wins record but it was cancelled due to traffic (or something like that, the circuit commentators were talking about it) they would already have been covering the story.

Don't see the fascination on the record wins when his car is normally night and day faster than anything else on the grid... We can all win a one horse race, but personally I'd find it boring!

As far as the crash goes, it was avoidable. Birley didnt need to try and prove anything and given the power advantage could have waited for the BM to commit to a side? Equally thr BM.could have given a little more room. However we all know what its like sat in the seat and the chequered flag is there!!

It's motor racing , stuff happens sometimes which isn't ideal but that's one reason so many people watch it , right ? Fault? I see the F1 malaise of assigning blame and culpability to everything that happens on track is moving ever downmarket....

"someone" "may" have put a "big fish small pond racing" sticker on his car a few years ago it didn't go down well !
Having said that this incident has no place in club racing whatever.
Lets hope it was just a red mist moment as both guys are great personalities and Rod drives a number of other cars around Brands very quickly.

You can't see the BMW's steering wheel, but you can see the G-meter, which moves in the opposite direction to the steering input. A small input to the right was made as the Escort drew alongside, then the steering was opened as the Escort moved ahead which resulted in the contact. BMW at fault.
