Ely Grange is a mansion with extensive grounds, near Tunbridge Wells.

I think the speed hillclimb event might have only taken place once.

One off on 19 /10 /74. FTD Richard Jones in Surtees TS10 ; 81 starters.
(from Motorsport Explorer by Julian Hunt - essential reading for anoraks like me )

Thank you for your reply, coppice.

It is interesting, because I do have a copy of the Motorsport Explorer book, but could find no mention of Ely Grange in the Kent section.
What is the page number, on which you found the information?

Perhaps my book, which states first published in August 2012, is not the most up to date edition.

EDIT - I have now realised that Ely Grange is not in Kent, but is over the border in Sussex.
Found the book entry on page 244.
Thank you for the lead. Without an index, my mistake led me to believe that the venue was not listed in the book.

Almost all competitors were very 'well behaved', except as mentioned in the book John Colburn, whose 3·8 Jaguar I think cleared a metal fence, and possibly ended up in a spectator area. Wonder if that was why the event only took place once?

PM me with you email and I will send you the index. I reviewed the book a few years ago and Julian sent me a pdf of the index- my only gripe had been its omission .Same offer applies to anybody else.
