As someone who's sitting their ARDS for the first time in the coming month or so I guess its one less thign to worry about not having to get a medical done.

I assume for the purposes of getting the sight test done, I can do this by means of a regular eye test at my optician and ask them to fill in the form accordingly?

It's free with Specsavers for MSUK members.

Did wonder about this - but surely I’m not a member till after I’ve sat / passed my ARDS?

You'd have to check with MSUK to be certain most likely but I would have thought that as the ARDS pack includes the first year license cost all the benefits should apply as soon as you've bought it.

You could apply and obtain a licence where you do not need the ards and upgrade it once achieved. That way you would get access to the benefits.
Assuming its an issue, I haven't noticed many of those benefits which I don't get elsewhere anyway for one reason or another.

The Specsavers thing seems to be a load of bks.
I went to renew my race licence this week, logged onto the MUK members portal hoping for some kind of voucher for the free eye test, but nothing there. Called MUK who said, your membership expired at the end of 2019, no benefits till you have renewed. (I have held a MSA licence every single year since the mid 80’s, but am not considered eligible?!) He kindly sent me a link to Specsavers own website, who do free eye tests for everyone in some areas, but not mine. So Yesterday I paid full price for an eye test at my local Specsavers, who’s manager tells me they never do free eye tests here.
I guess now I have done my renewal, I might be eligible for a free eye test at a ‘participating’ Specsavers, but having had one just yesterday I don’t feel the need for another!
What a load of ste!

So at the time of applying you didn't actually have your licence? Yet you wanted the benefits. If that is the case I don't really see the problem

So one of the benefits is useless, excellent. Maybe they could offer free medicals after you've got your license and 50% off your crash helmet after it's got a sticker on it.

But presumably you do see the logic of the problem with the eye test and renewals?

MUK says sorry about the hike in licence price but don't worry because you don't need a medical just an eye test which you can get free.

MUK didn't say, sorry chaps we didn't think that through properly, so best to get the free eye test before the end of the year otherwise it's not free.

Have you contacted your local specsavers and asked them to provide a free eyetest under the MSUK scheme?

Their logo is on the first time application form, so you would expect them to give it free when they fill out the form for you.
