Bit excited! No better way to find out how st you are than have a go in FF1600...

That looks great! Do please keep the pages updated with how you get on, I can’t be the only PHer who wanted to go single seaters but was too much of a wimp!
First race weekend in Formula Ford was the Oulton Park Gold Cup a couple of weeks ago.

Turns out I’m also a wimp... However that may have preserved the car when the throttle stuck wide open on on the way into Island Bend on the 4th lap in qualifying. I‘m told Island Bend is easy flat in FF but I was lifting, which meant I discovered my problem there rather than in Shell Oils... Came back in on a tow rope having qualified 16th out of 22.

A quick modification to the throttle pedal stop and onto the races.

I’m terrible at rolling starts anyway and was being particularly circumspect into turn one. Both races were completed without incident and finished in 12th and 15th place. I didn’t overtake anybody, just benefitted from people falling off.

As my Dad observed I’m ‘driving it on rails’, and I was 4 seconds off the fastest driver’s pace, so I’ve got to practice to get the car on the limit.

Honestly I was glad to keep the car in one piece and pretty much met my own low expectations.

Cadwell next weekend

I have won the Ginetta GRDC Rookie class in my first season of racing this year.

WHAT a blast! biggrin Anyone like me who has done a lot of track days over the years and been wondering whether to (ever) take the plunge and actually go race - GO FOR IT!
