Hi, trying to gather a little more info around the type-r trophy and civic cup.
The type-r trophy by 750mc seems a little lower cost but not quite as well supported as the civic cup- similar parts.
Anyone on here compete in either and can give me a little more info about the experience?

I started my rookie season in the Civic Cup and completed 4 seasons 2016-2019. The series really boomed and the car build cost crept up with development slightly during that time, but you could still build one on a budget for not too far north of 10/11k.

I have mostly fond memories from my time in the series. At its price point, it has been probably one of the best club level one make series you can enter for the last few years owing to the closeness & pace of the racing. If I am honest, I became a bit tired of the contact that came with said closeness - sometimes you will escape with an untouched car, sometimes not.

The entry numbers have taken a bit of a hit this year but it will probably rebound in 2021.

Have you been to any of the events? I was at thruxton yesterday and the cup races can clearly get quite physical. One car totalled at the chicane.. cup car prices are steep.

Trophy cars aimed more at beginners and those on a budget. You could certainly build one for £7kish. The field will grow.

I’ve got an ep3 that I’m slowly building towards race spec (on a budget). I’d use it in one of the many saloon series on offer by the 750mc, cscc etc.

Great, cheers both for replies- very helpful indeed.

I compete in enduroka at the moment and after competing in another series. My budget is ok, but like many not limitless, the trophy seems to have shade lower costs and like you say a little more friendly racing albeit competitive. Clearly mistakes and contact happens but don’t want to nor can I afford to be constantly repairing.

Will try and watch a bit more of each.

‘Racing is rubbing’ is a terrible phenomenon that has appeared since the heyday of BTCC - they have a lot to answer for. I wouldn’t (and don’t) race in a series where it’s considered remotely acceptable.

The Type R Trophy looks a great series in the making. I know a few people involved with it and they are a good bunch.

It was good to see them at Brands Hatch a few weeks ago and how close they all were, which makes for good racing.

One of the series organisers has offered me a go in one of the cars, I really must take him up on it!

If you get a chance to go see Civic Cup look how Area build their cars then ask yourself if you can afford to do it like that.

If not, go do Type-R Trophy, it empties your wallet slower. They're impacting each others grids with each getting sub 15 a weekend. Strange as a lot of other spec series are booming.

I was a Combe yesterday, and the Hot Hatch series had about seven EP3s entered (including a Cup car), a DC5 and several other Hondas. Something to consider as well.

One of the beauties of the Civic Type R is that it can be used competitively in a number of series inc 750 Club Enduro, MSVR Track day trophy and CSCC T in Tops, all series worth considering and excellent vfm.

Any populated one make series or championship running sprint races is going to suffer contact. If you qualify in the middle of the pack it is always going to be a factor.
