what kind of times do you do at say pembrey?
also how modified is your car?
only ask as my 11 is based on a midget
Not been to Pembry yet (last year was my first part-season, and the car wasn't ready in time for that). I'm rather glad as it was hugely wet, so I can't even give you very meaningful times for those that did go.also how modified is your car?

The car is race-modified, for MGCC Midget Challenge class B, just about as far as you could go in the regs. Had it on Tom Airey's rolling road for it's first run and he got 130bhp at 6000 rpm, but it was spinning the wheels on the rollers so couldn't go to the 8k red line. Seems rather a lot, and I don't hold much certainty about rolling road figures, but Tom knows his stuff.
I'm not a very experienced driver though, so I'm slow (and there have been some small things to iron out on the car after the build - got to get my racing driver excuses in). My fastest times so far this season are, 59.9 at Brands Indy and 1:31.7 at Combe. Oulton was only 2:42.8 in very wet and slippery conditions (was very glad to finish!). The leaders in my class are about 2-4 seconds ahead of me at the moment depending on the circuit but have at minimum 3 years experience over me!

Its a relay race, with a team of 4-6 drivers in their own car. one car and driver on the circuit at one time... kind of why its called a relay
a good crack though. I've done it a couple of times... To win you need to be very consistant and ideally run each car for 1 hour to minimise pit stops...
So not send you out. Watch you blow the engine after 2 corners, then the midget who does about 4 laps and the gearbox dies, so out with the ginetta, which runs for a while before that suffers a bust wheel bearing, for which we have no spare, so send out the Westie how spends so long out on track the ECU dies from heat...recovers...dies...recovers, and finally send out the ginetta with a borrowed/stolen/found wheel bearing.a good crack though. I've done it a couple of times... To win you need to be very consistant and ideally run each car for 1 hour to minimise pit stops...
All in all very consistant (we broke every car), not sure about minimal pit stops though...

Iain and co,
I'm assuming you didn't get a team together / entry for this year as I can't see you anywhere on the final list.
Birkett Entry list
I'll be there, camera in hand. Any other PHers racing? I can see JohnnyMaestro in team 6 (four Johns in their line-up!); any more?

No, we didn't people promised entries, not enough transpired, and just at the time I couldn't afford to pay for a number of TBC entries out of my own pocket, then the even became fully subscribed and I got a little pissed off, becasue I'd started to but equipment such as tea urns and the like.
Ho hum, a mob of us are going down anyway cos it's a brilliant day out, without the stress of trying to herdcats, sorry, drivers. If you want to meet for a coffee PM me.
Regards
Iain
ETA Where have all the Jag XK's, Cobras and chain drives gone? Have they been put off by the longer circuit?

That's a shame. It would have been good to see some TVRs out there. I understand it's been hard to get an entry this year, even with the expanded number of entrants due to the longer circuit, so anyone who's got in has done well. I know of someone who is in the first reserve team who is watching the list on tenterhooks...
It doesn't look as though Mark Walker's wonderful FN 'Thunderbug' will be out either, which is a real shame. As you say, maybe the longer Int'l circuit had something to do with it. There seems to be a lot of Caterhams this year and not too much of the older stuff like the XK Jags and such like; a sign of the times maybe?
Still, it's always one of my highlights of the year and I'm sure the faster stuff that's in this year's race (Caterfields, Morgans, BMWs, Radicals etc) will be a spectacle. Looking forward to it.
