The 2009 Impressions Classic Thunder Championship (Pre 2004) incorporating The Blue Oval Saloon Series (BOSS)
The Blue Oval Saloon Series is a dedicated race series run within the Classic Thunder Championship that will bring together a fantastically diverse range of Ford machinery for 2009. It is from this platform that fearsome turbocharged Cosworths will battle against the Classic MkI and MkII Escorts of the 70’s and 80’s along with a group of nimble yet quick Fiesta’s of near showroom specification.
These classics will also be racing alongside the more modern versions of these iconic cars, the Ford KA and Focus.
The BOSS series has been created to provide friendly club-level racing for like minded people on a budget whilst providing fantastic racing for the competitors and crowd pleasing action for the Spectators, Marshals and Officials alike.
More details will be announced at 'The London Motorsport Show' which takes place at Brands Hatch this weekend.
A new Era in Saloon Racing is set to begin in 2009 so come and see us at the show to find out more, what are you waiting for?
The series will run within the Classic Thunder championship in 2009 with its own class and points structure. The first three classes will be split by engine capacity. Class 1:- Over 2150cc including any Cosworth Turbo. Class 2:- 1701cc – 2149cc. Class 3:-1299ccc – 1700cc. The fourth group is for the more showroom specification vehicle up to 1700cc and Class 5 by invitation of the organisers. The rules will be mainly as Classic Thunder with some specific rules for the BOSS series cars only. No four wheel drive cars will be allowed. Any Ford car may be entered providing it is fitted with a Ford engine in the correct orientation. The final technical regulations and dates will be released shortly. Sounds good to me and I've heard that Craig Rainer's MkII cossie amongst others are going to race in it. Should be good.

isnt it just an amalgamation of the existing ford saloon series to include classic/historic stuff? surely most mk1/2 escorts will be on a rally stage rather than on a track?
i like the ford series when i catch it on motors tv, old fiesta from the one make series, some sierra cosworths and hte odd escort cosworth, all good stuff.
hopefully its not another new series though which wil ltake ccars from other championships, hte MSA need to sort out championships with low grid numbers and not be fooled by optimistic championship organisers...

I think you might find it will be ONE very well supported series. Having attended Race Car Live this weekend with Craig Rainer and Wealden Racing who will be moving to the BOSS series along with other drivers from the FSCC the amount of interest shown from new competitors and those that would not compete in the Ford Saloon Car Championship due to high cost and the attitude of the championship manager who ALSO works for the BRSCC was huge! Lets see what happens but my guess is the BOSS is here to stay!

Dave,You've seen my feelings about multiplicated championships on "the other forum" in the past, yet I feel BOSS will probably be the winner here, with the BRSCC jobby becoming yet another part of the LMA Eurosaloons series within a year.
From what I hear, talking to people who are in it, or have been in it, the FSC has gone the way of a lot of BRSCC championships and become expensive and competitor's voices are being ignored.
If the BRSCC had listened, I don't think BOSS would have started, and the FSC grids would still be full. Because of the disparity between the leading three or four cars and the rest of the field, a heck of a lot of people have parked their cars, or looked for other things to do with them.
