Afternoon all,

There's a group of about 4 of us who are interested in taking part in some amateur racing. None of us have raced before, and there a few questions.

From peoples experience is it feasible to have 4 people involved with a "team" without throwing spanners at each and giving up?

Budget is around £5k-£9k per year (maybe a bit more), could anyone suggest a series that would be practical on this budget? Not sure whether to go for track/rally yet so all options considered.

Also, are we too late to consider the 2009 season?

Thanks,
Chris

It's certainly worth considering CSCC Tin Tops, freindly club, good racing, great for begineers, 30mins practice & 40mins races at each round for 1 or 2 drivers, manditory pit-stops, so take it in turns at each meeting & away you go!!

Mixed but open & flexible class structure so even if your car doesn't quite comply they would probably pop it in a invitation class for you.

Your budget would more than fit in. Andy97 posts on here and he's full of information on the series, it kicks off at Snetterton i nearly April although there is a test day there before then.

Also look at the other thread covering this series.

Failing that call the club (CSCC) & either Hugo or Richard will be glad to help & offer advise.

Good luck!!

Mark

Another vote for tin tops - I race on occasions with Andy97 and we have a huge amount of fun for far less than the budget you mention

Andy97 might have an Alfa you could rent at very low cost

Have fun

I am definately a big advocate of the Classic Sports Car Club's "Tin Tops" series, and they also have other similar series for cars from the Sixties, Future Classics (70's & 80's) & 7 Type cars.

The club are virtually unique in that all their series are designed as 40 min races for one or two drivers, with a compulsory pit stop, meaning that drivers can share cars and share costs. The track time per £ is probably the best there is in club motorsport and the series are ideal for the novice and experienced driver alike. Kickstart and I usually share either an Alfa 33 or a Fiat Uno at the budget end of the grid but bigger budgets can get you in to race winning Honda Type Rs. I have had tremendous fun in this series for not masses mount of money.

There are 3 other threads where I go on & on about the CSCC & particularly about their "Tin Tops" series:

If you have any questions after reading through that lot, please feel free to ask on here or PM me.

Is your budget to purchase & race, or is that just the car purchase costs? If its the latter, For your budget I reckon you could probably buy 2 cars so that all 4 of you can race at each meeting! There are plenty of eligible cars around for Tin Tops at low prices - XR2/3, Maestro, Pug 205, Alfa 33, Rover 216, Golf GTi etc etc and all would go well within the Tin Tops class structure. An XR2 or Pug Gti can be had for £2-3K, see here:
