What's Lydden like for a novice?
Be careful of the Devil's Elbow, and very careful of the camber change at the bottom of Hairy Hill and you'll be fine.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikpfYCC9DRg
And if you want to see the view from inside the Griff that goes past at the beginning;

I've started sprinting this year in the Tunbridge Wells Motor Club, www.twmc.org.uk all circuits sprint championship and really enjoying it.
I'm in the up to 2.0 standard production class in a clio 172.
Basically all I needed was
A non race national B license
Fire proof overalls
A helmet.
A sticker to say how to turn the ignition off
some yellow tape for the earth cable
Some race numbers
and that was me ready to go.
I'm sprinting at lydden tomorrow if your in Kent it might be worth poping along for a look, its on from 9a.m until 12ish.
Unfortunately I'm out of action for a few days buddy otherwise I would. Damn doctors gave me something that reacts with 20% of patients. I've got guts like ghengis khans lunchbox at the moment!I'm in the up to 2.0 standard production class in a clio 172.

So this is the Tunbridge Wells Area is it? I'm in Canterbury, where are the rounds held?
ETA: Just re-read that properly, and I see you mentioned Lydden. Are many events held there? That could be mighty handy...

Yeh the TWMC have 6 events at Lydden, 3 at Goodwood, 1 at brands and 1 at Cadwell park.
With the all circuits championship the elise's and exige's get moved into another class, so unless S2000's turn up hot hatches can do well.
Theres 2 events at Lydden on June on the 6th and the 20th as with today they are from 9 until 12ish.
I'll come and say Hi on the 6th; I am the black RX-7 in the 'ModProd over 2000cc' class. I've been at the last 5 or 6 at Lydden, and was at Goodwood last month.
KingRichard; pop down to the next one and say Hi and see how it all works?

My dad was gutted he spun in the last corner, i wasn't expecting to give him such a good run for his money!!
I've booked for Abingdon now -- seen a couple of runs on Youtube and it doesn't look the most interesting of courses, but I've got to start somewhere.
Has anyone sprinted at Hethel? It's on the calendar, and the Gavan Kershaw demonstration lap on the Lotus website is impressive -- some 130-140 mph at the end of the long straight. Do they run round the circuit 'untouched', or only use part of it or put chicanes in?
I've seen the Beesley Jedi a few times now and it's incredible. 6 seconds faster than its nearest competitor round North Weald, 4 seconds faster round Debden. And I think the nearest competitor was a Ralt RT3. Is is the car or is your dad a bit handy behind the wheel?

The car is very quick about 500bhp per tonne but he is pretty damn handy behind the wheel he's been rallying, auto crossing etc for years. So normally gives the big boys in the Goulds etc a good run for their money!

I was up at Bentwaters with the Lotus on Track Elises. My first ever Sprint and meeting up with peeps I'd met at TDs and on the forums helped me through the first time. I was getting myself into a real tizz before the event but had a great time despite the weather.
Unfortunately none of our class really got going - I was certainly suffering from the TD syndrome of starting slow and building. Not enough time for that - as someone said above you just have to go balls out from the start. Remembering the course seemed to be a bit of a problem for me - I virtually came to a halt catching a slide as I tried to get through the gate/chicane at the top hairpin on my first proper run. Never got a chance to improve as it was damp and greasy for my second go. Running on Toyo 888s in the wet was also a new experience for me.
Great fun anyway aqnd I'm hooked now. I can't make Debden (coincides with the missus birthday) so Hethel is my next outing.

Yes, it's all wiggly down the main straight whereas the test track is just dead straight until the chicanes at the end. There goes my plan to have the edge over the people with short gearing... It is only a rumour, though. It'll be a pity, 'cos I likes the roundabout.
