Looking for fellow PH's who might have taken part in/know about this event. Hopefully we have now secured a car and have a team of non-2CV'ers in place, but realise we have alot of learning / catching up to do.
For us 2CV virgins, can anyone share any experiences they have had of the race; the do's and don't etc of driving the cars?! Basically any tips?

Hi there.
I've been involved in this race for 10 years and have driven it 5 times. the cars are odd but easy to drive. the golden rule is to get the gearshift right they use the 2cv standard out of the dash gearchange which wasn't designed with racing in mind. it can take a bit of getting used to and because its a 24 hour race it only takes a moment of complacency to miss a change, fail to engage the gear buzz the engine oh dear! time for a new engine! that said its a great race with a great crowd. the racing is very close, you will undoubedly have a ball.

I drove with Ted and the gang in PH1 in 2007 and had an absolute hoot, we were right next to the Tete Rouge guys who were a god send given the lack of preparation from the upside down fish we hired the car off which was a bit of a Sting in the tail; my (now) girlfriend had to virtually rebuild the car Friday and Saturday morning, a list spanning 2 sides of A4 to prep our pre-prepped hire car.
That aside, the actual racing was awesome, very close, the gear box as has been mentioned is interesting, don't use reverse unless you absolutely have to, if you're in the pits get pushed backwards. The key is to be as smooth as possible (I never quite figured out how to take Sear properly), relax and don't take on too much fluid before a stint
theres plenty of opportunity to take a sip from a camelbak during your stint.

I'm doing it again this year (subject to having a competitive car, which we didn't last year) and would echo what was said above.
I don't think there's better value racing to be had - 6 hours of racing in one 24 hour period (assuming 4 drivers) is equivalent to many club series' entire seasons.
The cars are close in terms of performance (well, they ought to be) and slipstreaming is the name of the game. Watching the sun rise behind the wheel of a racing car is something not that many people can say they've done either and the sense of achievement you feel having simply finished the race is huge.
We had mechanical problems and tantrums last year, we finished the race after 3 engine changes and with only 3 of the 4 drivers still at the circuit but we had a great time - well worth doing.

Have to say it was one of the most bonkers things I've ever done but great fun. Me and Iain are planning to have another go at it in the next couple of years. Though we'll be doing all the prep work ourselves.... This year we're having a go at 24 hour kart racing.

What do you want to know? This should have been my 15th 24hr race but the barstard msa license/medical peeps won't renew my license so i'm just crewing this year.
