After a bit of help, does anyone have a 2009 'Blue Book' handy and if so could you please have a quick look and let me know what the current standards for helmets are (this year).

As I wasn't racing this year I didn't bother renewing my licence but I will now be doing some testing with my old sponsor next week, so I have just renewed my Licence but need to know if my race helmet is still OK to use.

It's been a couple of years since I did an MSA sanctioned test day and can't remember if they check your kit

Snell 2000,
Snell 2005,
FIA 8860-2004
and BS 6658 type A or A/FR

All acceptable, provided accompanied by an MSA blue sticker.

Type A only valid until the end of this year, so OK if you already have one but don't buy a new Type A!

The Blue Book is available here: http://www.msauk.org/site/cms/contentviewarticle.a...

Brilliant mine is BS5568 Type-A and still has the Blue Sticker so still approved, at least I can get the rest of this year out of it

That makes a change!!!! Usually it would of just ran out of approval and I would of had to shell out £££'s

Yup. Type A and - probably - Snell 2000 dropped at the end of the year as neither requires a fire-retardant liner.

Which means I need to shell out for a new one.

Not all good though, just checked my racesuit and that also runs out of approval at the end of the year - looks like it will get expensive again!!

The MSA can clarify any regs if you give them a quick call.

Snell 2000 - Maybe discontinued at the end of this season but you wont know until they issue a new blue book or an update in Motorsport Now. I would wait until they get the new Blue Book out.

I understand (dont quote me) that Snell 2010 will be the new reg going forward and will therefore replace Snell 2005 standard, although normally the standard last for 10 years before they withdraw it.

I have never known them to check helmets on test days, so as long as it look ok and has a blue sticker on it you should be ok.
