The velcro fastener on the neck of my race suit is getting rather tired (I've
been pulled up by marshals about it twice now) so I was going to replace it this
winter (the velcro, not the suit...!). But finding Nomex velcro and sewing
thread in retail quantities seems almost impossible. Does anyone know of a
source of supply?

Have you tried contacting the manufacturer of your overalls?

I remember there was a thread (no pun intended) on here about stiching your own badges on, there might be some help in there.

If the velcro is getting that tired, then don't you think the suit is as well?
I'm guessing that you are a non-race competitor (Sprint/Hillclimb?) as older suits (FIA 1986 standard) are no longer valid for circuit racing after the end of this year.

I have a perfectly good AWS three layer nomex suit that will be past it's use-by date at the end of the year, which will be put in the corner along with my double layer proban (nice and warm in the winter!).

There is a guy who posts on here from time to time - Al Weyman - who's a racer that has a business doing graphics & corporate clothing. IIRC he was getting tooled up to do nomex embroidery. Whether he can get nomex velcro, I don't know.

In fairness to the OP I'm in my second season racing and my Sparco suit is pretty much as new ... apart from the fact that the velcro at the neck doesn't work any more!

Hi,

Must admit I never do my collar up, but then I have a fat neck (as well as the rest) so maybe they take pity on me. Or maybe its disguised by the Hans, balaclava etc.

Anyway, Al did some jackets and t-shirts for me and they look ace. Bargain price too. Have a word with him, he certainly has the machinery so I guess he just needed the right thread.

I have definitely seen nomex thread available on the internet (possibly from demon-tweeks, gpr motorsport or aws).

Be wary of how you sew anything on your suit though as regs state that any patches must only be sewn onto the outermost layer and a busy-body marshall may say the same about the velcro.
