Chargecooler rad and fan

Turbos are Holset twin scroll HX35 I think (been a while) did spec them for a 5.3l but decided higher rpm and is now forged 4.8l, should start boosting at 2500 rpm, will have to wait and see, fingers crossed.

Taught myself to weld manufacturing the exhausts, intake, dry sump tanks and methanol tank.
Post some of your install please

16 injector intake all run via megasquirt ms3 ultimate, really impressed with the megasquirt, even me with little experience of wiring or fuel injection got the engine running and with self tune got it running smoothly.

I think my "photo"-phobia is now going to show..... maybe no one has ever really been interested in my builds? hey ho I shall try and get some interesting bits tomorrow and post. Maybe even get some dyno pics on tuesday (please no further problems)
Still hoping to get close to the 1 hp per kilo mark, as the car reputedly started about 800kg and although some bits have been added, some like aircon have gone, the heli vents always seem to work amazingly once moving.
As ever, thanks to Andy at the factory for getting the roof scoop to me so quickly, it should provide a great source of cool air to the heat exchanger.

Jesus Tim.... That looks like a plumbing nightmare bud... Packaging is the hardest part but with some planning you can get allot in there.... and still make it look nice. The intake and charge cooling is my next stage but Iv'e been trying a few setups virtually before I go ahead and make them....Plus I'm trying to put as much of the heavy stuff close to center of the car, which makes for interesting shapes of the Oil tanks etc etc.But it can also spur some good ideas.... For instance the oil tank now has the water pipes going through it only because there was no room to get them past it neatly. But that now, just by necessity means I have some water to Oil cooling / Heating, and the Oil preheater which is mains supplied now will add some heat to the water as well. Single idea Dual purpose.... and those are the ideas that make me smile....

Trying stuff in CAD first means you can rethink it a few times before your happy with the concept... even building a few wood prototypes of the inter coolers to see how place the piping isn’t a bead idea .... as far as charge cooling goes bud you can’t beat a 417 Motorsport charge cooler on top of a Holley high ram. Saves lots of room and is great a lovely thing to look at....

Good luck at the dyno, hope it all goes to plan with no issues, from the information Kurt supplied about the limitation's of the Porsche gearbox I don't think I will get to the 1hp per kg without a gearbox problem, although the factory rus the Evo at over a 1000hp (cant remember the torque figures but must be well over 650nm) but I think that's a GT3 box. I'm pretty sure mine will make well over 1000hp and 900nm at 24psi, just as well the boost level can be set lower. I think my build will be over 1000kg, quite a lot of weight in the charge cooling system, methanol system and all the extra pumps and fans I need. Very interested in the figures you achieve, cant wait to see them.

Its busy in there, I think I have a couple of small spaces left in the engine bay. The design stemmed from wanting the shortest possible route from the turbochargers through the charge coolers to the inlet manifold using the least amount of bends and wanting the largest coolers I could possibly fit in alongside the largest charge cooling radiator. Once you put that together with laminova coolers/pre heaters for gearbox and engine along with methanol injection and dry sump systems this is where im at. I have made quite a few parts that have had to be scrapped/modified over the build but it all seems to fit and function well and i'm happy with the way it looks. Only time will tell if my choices were right.
Cad would have been nice but not necessary for me (to old to start learning more packages) I'm more, what do I need, where can it fit, make it and test it. Regarding your charge cooler recommendation, have a look on LS1 Tech forum about its results, interesting reading. Hope your build goes to plan, keep us updated.
Regards Tim

Cant get any more simple than this for a charge cooler bud....Turbos straight in to the top of the highram.... I'm still on the fence with the Air to Air or charge cooling both have pro's and cons.....

Check out the LS1 Tech forum before you consider this, posted are measured temperature readings in the drag racing environment using ice, water, with pump and without and response from manufacturer.

I went for charge cooling because I couldn’t see a way to draw in enough cold air to pass through an air to air and more importantly the size needed and how to remove that air under the clam while keeping the pipe work short and simple while not hacking the body up, what swung it for me was a you tube Video with a cheap Chinese charge cooler on a lotus Elise, kept the air cool and a compact install. I have installed pre and post cooler sensors so should be able to see how effective mine are, once I have it running again I will post some figures

Yep and I was one of them on LS1 tech asking the same questions. A lot of superchargers are set up the same way with a charge cooler in the same position ish. So as a concept it seems to be widely used even by GM, maybe the hi ram cooler can be improved on by looking at lets say the core from a LT5.

Increasing the engine bay air through put is a must i think for a Turbo car, even with ceramic coating everything its still going to get hot. On that note the T50 has my mind in a spin over ideas on how to do that.....

Anyway good luck for your Dyno day

A bit late I know but just wanted to say that Kurt Dobson's Ultima review is fantastic and in my humble opinion very sensible!
Thank you Kurt.
