Whose ultima has the most BHP , etc...
I like the acceleration but i dont like the fact that they run out of steam at about 180 mph (so ive heard).
I want 200+ mph 0-60 3.5 secs 0-100 under 7 secs etc...

This is the most powerful one I've heard of

It's powered by a V10 Judd engine, which kicks out about 720BHP.

Ultimas have done over 200 mph. In fact, before the first person tried, Ultima took one of their cars to a wind tunnel and tested it, then gave the information to the guy who wanted to try it out.

Normal power for an Ultima is around about 400-450 BHP (real BHP that is, not the type that TVR quote ). If you've got the cash, and don't mind a bit more maintenance, you can get over 600BHP out of the small block Chevy engine.

It'll easily do 200mph, and 0-60 can be as quick as you like, depending on what gear ratios you use.

The only thing that will stop an Ultima from doing over 200mph (other than a Gatso) is the lump at the back, whereas most cars just don't have the aerodynamics even if you had 1000bhp!

TVR's are a case in point.

Come on stig you gave me stick for making any negative comments about TVR.....being realistic I doubt an Ultima is any more aerodynamic than either a Tuscan or Cerb with that plank of a wing at the back.

Given a Cerb will crack 190ish, I am sure with the suggested 1000bhp it would easily pass the 200mph barrier.

The difference is that the Ultima has been clocked at over 200 officially (with 'plank' wing) and has actually seen the inside of a wind-tunnel.

You know as well as I do that a TVR's indicated 190 is, in reality, more like 175. Before you reply, I know that the Tuscan-S has been briefly tested at MIRA and that's why they put that gross gutter thing on the boot.

As far as the Ultima wing being a plank, well, it's optional for a start and if you do have one at least it's functional (adjustable gurney etc.) and looks a sight better imho.

The 1000bhp related to 'most cars'. Either way, I'd rather not sit in a TVR at over 200mph as they tend to float at the rear - again, as you well know.

However, on that point I'd be interested to see which was more aerodynamic the Cerbie or the Tuscan. I'd bet on the Cerbie. Not having the 'reversed wing' profile I'd guess that it suffers from far less rear lift.

i agree with you for once, but not making any further comments for fear of flogging at next ph get together.

i really like the ultima, and a couple of weeks ago at Donnington got close to the point of wanting one...i think it was as it overtook me and the V8 sounded incredible.

Very nice car, but shame it caught fire mid afternoon!

I witnessed it too as I was with Bennno at Donnington with my Tamora that day. I can confirm that the Ultima was very quick (probably the quickest car that day) but not as good through the corners as some of the other cars that day. That said I love them and one day I have vowed to have one.

Strangely though, when the red flags came out and the ambulance went charging round the circuit followed by the fire tender Ben and I looked at each other and said in Unison "Ultima" and we were right..

The car in question was a factory car and was driven by Mr Ultima himself and some other guy. I had a long chat with them and they were great to talk to. Apparently the fire was just unburnt fuel on the exhaust system after a spin and they managed to drive it home.

Actually, the 190 I got out of my Cerbie really was 190. It was agreed by my speedo, rev counter, Steve B's speedo and rev counter (he was right behind me at the time in his), and verified on the old GPS.

Has anyone thought about putting a turbocharged or twinturbo in-line 4 cyl. engine into their GTR or Can-Am?

I'm not sure if you all heard of a car name Leblanc Caroline which looks very similar to an Ultima GTR. However, the car weighs 250 Kg. lighter than the GTR. I'm thinking the reason why the Caroline weighs that light is due to its engine and tran. It makes use of a in-line 4, twin turbocharged to over 500 HP. I'm not sure how much torque the car generates. But I've heard the in-line 4 engine is a modified Ford Cosworth...

d3vine - This subject has been well covered in other threads ...... conclusion generally has been, who wants an Ultima that sounds like a hoover. Unless you've been overtaken by a Chevvy powered Ultima (Ultima'd) then you may not understand. If you have been, then you'll know why we stick to big V8's.
