LS3 ECU and Factory harness
Discussion
Novice or not, i know why you are scratching your head with some of it.
Actually, when you have the loom all installed and you have the ecu loom at least sort of in place, it becomes much clearer and items like the fuel system and surge tank come from the factory with a set of instructions as to where some things go like the fuel change over wires.
There are a number of wires that end up redundant, however, how many will depend on when you got your ultima loom from the factory...for example, my loom was from a while back and had some SBC engine wires on it (Coil for example) and i'm not sure if that's changed now.
If you want, i can certainly let you know which ones of mine end up unused, but there's not that many and the best bet for now is to put them all in place and don't fix them in until you have you fuel system installed as that will change things a bit...i've also just last night moved my main power cable for the starter motor from running down the right hand side to the left as it wasn't quite long enough which i only found out when the engine and gearbox were fitted...so i've had to drill some rivets out to unclip it to then drill more on the opposite side of the car...so much for installing everything neatly and carefully at the start

Ok so finally got around to extending my loom.
I just have a question about some of the wires that seem to be grouped together in thick black shielded and earthed insulation.
My question is how do I go about shielding my extension (1200mm in length)? Foil and insulation tape, shielded tape, etc? I will also need to earth the shielding as done on the original.
Any advice from the experts would be greatly appreciated.

You can buy shielding braid on a roll and just cut it to length and slip it over your new wires. Take it over the existing braid then heatshrink over the lot. Only earth the braid at one end.
