GTR wing mirror attachment help

Can anyone tell me, in really simple terms, how the wing mirrors attach to the doors on the GTR please.
Idiot proof schematics, diagrams, pretty pictures etc would be particularly welcome

My car was in a workshop getting a new windscreen sun strip fitted and when I got home I noticed that some numptie (may have been me and I hadn't noticed before but I doubt it) has likely shut the drivers door with a bit of a slam and there is a small crack on the stem of the mirror near where it joins the door.

Just really considering what my options are at the moment.

I believe the fixings are simply two holes drilled and tapped into the GF resin of the mirror stem. I stand to be corrected but don't believe there is any form of thread insert in the stem.
Faced with the same problem I would first be making sure the fixings are long enough to fully engage in the available thread depth.
Then for a repair I would put some liquid resin in the threaded hole then screw in a fixing coated in grease or mould release agent if you have some. After that I would again be making sure the tapped holes are as deep as I could safely make them.
