Nice engineering; but straight from GM for circa $17K an LSX454R is 770BHP / 600 lbs/ft out of the crate at same peak rpm.
Not bad value for a n/a small block with a forged bottom and top end, six bolt mains and heads,
Throw a few pounds of boost and a "softer" custom cam at it and it would be an absolute peach of a motor.
but....American Speed 29.000usd and Create Engine also....
i don't understand: HP equal ,the choice seems easy and I add that ,perhaps, GM is more reliable.

or no?
Looking on line the price for the LSX454R is $21K and it has been developed for drag racing. It also comes with a very tall inlet manifold/plenum and a carburettor. You need to factor in changes to fuel injection and all the other electronic sensors etc if you want ‘modern’ engineering.
I know it’s off topic but I came across this: http://www.conleyprecision.com/609.htm
Perfect for a scaled down Ultima model....

Hi Stefano, yes I would think with all of the "forged" componentry the engine would be almost bullet proof.
there is a weight penalty because of the iron block, though this is mitigated through use of better top end componentry.
I have a similar 378 LSX build with all forged componentry and feel it is over engineered, I also run fuel injection rather than carbs. if I had to re-build I would go LS3 with centrifugal supercharger to about 550 RWHP which is where I am at with my engine, it runs around 2 psi boost currently, and has been dyno'd at over 700, which I have to say is too much for me and severely detracted from the drive on road.

O.K. Another blow up on my part, sorry for being such a pain but here goes..... Anybody that pays $29,000 for an LS 7 crate motor is being, ripped period. yea I know it makes, fill in the blank horse power. Its completely adapted to fit in a Ultima chassis. Sorry to those I offend in advance, you can buy LS7s for $12,000 all day long. An A.C. mount #141881 from vintage air is $200 . Somebody where you live can build an alternator Bracket for say $300 throw in a $500 dollar camshaft in if you must and your done. Even if you air freight the thing and pay %20 tax your still leaving at least $12,000 on the table. That my fellow Ultima brothers is stupid. Lee

Lee.
That is what I did. My LS7 came from a company in the UK that imports crate GM engines. Came with ECU and engine harness (and an oil-over-water oil cooler).
I made most of the brackets and sourced idlers from the US. Measured the belt route with string and purchased a suitable one from my belt supplier.
I did have help sorting the loom shortening and had a custom exhaust built by SS. It did take two attempts to build an air box to release all the horses available.
I left the engine completely (other than the complete exhaust inc headers and airbox) standard and with a bit of mapping she now has 578hp.
I have had fun and she can be a handful, but I might swap the cam for a bit more performance soon, just for something to do.

My engine was about £12k with ECU and harness in the UK after taxes.

Companies are doing pulled LSA blowers these days as well. One of this sons LS3 should make decent power (guessing over 600bhp no problems)! you can't argue with the packaging either!

No argument with the package or price, just prefer the delivery of a centrifugal charger in a lightweight car.

And how about this for the SBC chaps!

As much as I would like one of those, I think I am going to have a 'packaging' problem...

Totally agree! But with a little more money it could be made reliable.

Here is an another example the runs on normal fuel and is built to be driven hard for many many miles. Not as cheap though I'm sure!

There has been a couple of people that I have seen run procharged engines (1 LS the other a SBC) in an ultima. They do fit!

laughlaugh in this video, minute 14:36, watch on the water pump!!!!! "engine master" they want to be called nononono

In my SBC with a D1SC the only one issue is be with belt tensioner (and fuel consuption lick )
With 1 bar of boost I have 700hp circa.

Yip, aware of that.. I acquired a Rotrex C38-81 at a good price a while ago, every now and again I hold it up to the Ultima and try and figure the best way to retrofit it. So far I haven't come up with many ideas that don't involve a modicum of cutting and a load of engine bay re-organisation.
