We (My fiancee Irina & I) are getting married on the 28th Sept 2002 (2 weeks). As car enthusiasts (& businesspeople - see our website citysportscarauctionsdotcom), we would like to use an Ultima as our wedding car (journey Knightsbridge-Kew-Marylebone...around 80 miles total). Would anyone consider hiring us an Ultima, preferably a GTR, preferably with aircon for our wedding. We are offering £700 for the day (collected/delivered from Marylebone, London NW1) plus a sizeable (£15,000) deposit? We both had a blast in one around Donnington on Sunday...fantastic!

Also, if anyone would like our help selling their car, let me know. Senake 07958 933248

weddingsupercars.com has an ultima on the books - but the owners is a PHer so he may pipe up here and cut out the middle man - then again, weddingsupercars are well organised and quite slick, take credit cards etc. so it may be better for both parties to arrange it through official channels. Up to you guys, but the dream is a definite goer.

Cheers
Domster

PS This a chauffered service, so if you fancied hire and drive, then you may need help from another source. It would only be fair to point out that Ultima don't even let potential customers take test drives, after a car was stacked, so please don't be disheartened if you aren't inundated with offers.

Cheers Domster

We do really want to have a self drive for the both us to go the church/photo/reception venues. I don't think we'll be doing any silly speeding because all of the venues are in Central London and our deposit would be at stake.

If you have any other ideas, do let us know. Thanks for your help.

You could use mine. However, as it's a race car (road legal though), it isn't exactly what you'd call in "showroom condition". The 100 litre fuel tank that the seat is made from makes it quite tight too. If you're tall, it would be hard to fit in. The 4 point harness might crease your wife-to-be's dress as well.

It's a Mk 4 by the way, so not your 1st choice.

Here's a link to picture of it at Folembray on Saturday www.fotango.com/cgi-bin/public_gallery_item.cgi?id=192152&index=&key=

Obviously you'd have to put an X through the number

Let me know if you want to come along and have a look at it. I can always put some white ribbons on it

Hi James

Thanks for your reply. I had a quick look at the pictures and road test of your car...which does look like it is a real blast. The car looks good in Saturday's picture, but the cockpit looks almost as cramped as our Westie with the fuel tank behind the seats.

We had a few laps each in a GTR demonstrator at Donnington Park over the weekend which had a more 'road use' interior. I think we would be OK with 4 point belts!

I think a fully race preped car would not be 'civilised' enough for the day. If you do have any other ideas, do please give me a call - 07958 933248.

Love the idea!

I am a bit concerned as to the bride getting into a GTR, its hard enough in my Can-am!

If you get stuck I might be persuaded, hopefully will have finished fitting the weather gear by then!
but I suspect others will have same concern as me as to how the insurance will work!

Irina's used to getting into cars with no doors, but she did draw the line at trying to squash her dress into our Westie.

With regards to insurance, I was either going to try and get either my T9 or Westie policy modified to be fully comp for the day or (if agreeable), use the 3rd party cover on either policy and leave enough of a deposit to cover any possible damage (of which there should be none...yes, I know, famous last words!).

If it is a nice day...the BBC should let us know 5 days ahead...I would be very grateful if we could have yours for the hire charge and a couple of wedding invites - see buzz-technologydotcom/weddingdothtm) !

Glad something looks like it could be sorted out.

The weddingsupercars one is a GTR by the way, but as has been said, they are a bugger to get in and out of. I went out in bluesatin's the other day, and it was even more difficult than a Caterham to get into - with a wedding dress I suspect it may be impossible? All those harnesses and stuff.

Re insurance, I guess the hirer arranges his own fully comp insurance up for an agreed value, and the deposit is in case he doesn't bring it back! I'm not sure if this is necessary, as it would be classed as theft/obtaining by deception if the car wasn't returned, so the lender's normal policy would cover this. Deposit is largely an indication of goodwill from what I can see here.

It is a tad cramped in mine. I wouldn't say uncivilised though. It has ventilation and everything Well, ok. It has ventilation.

Somebody just posted some more picsfrom Saturday, shere you can get a better view of the car in action:

I think that getting into and out of the car will be part of the fun! Irina didn't seem to mind that too much, but she did admit she was a bit scared when the guy (Ultima's MD, I think) floored it on the run up to the first bend!

As for insurance, I think it should be able to sort something out. I've hired Tuscans and 993's from Nothern Sportscar Hire and given them back without a scratch after weekends full of open road driving.

That's all part of the "Ultima Passenger Experience". You have to give the passenger the maximum G force within 2 seconds of starting. It makes it all the more vivid for them

Wasn't complaining, just amused at the "Victim" logo that has appeared on the picture

I just completely screwed up the entry to the long double apex corner at the bottom of the circuit. By the time I exited it, I was about 2 feet too wide, and spun it trying to take the chicane.

No damage done (except to my pride), and my passenger enjoyed it
