Gear change position

Hello everyone. I am getting close to being able to restart my build and thank you to those of you who wished me well and supplied parts, I've very grateful, especially my good friend Martin.

I have a question regarding the location of the gear lever. The car I am sourcing the parts from had the lever in the centre(cable shift). Is it possible to have this mounted on the right, via rod linkage, as they used to be. It might seem silly, but I rather the older position and it adds to the uniqueness of the car.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
