After you guys were done with them, what became of your shipping crates? Did you pour a foundation underneath and turn them into sheds? Firewood for a year? Propped up behind the garage until they disintegrate?

Where are you?
Shipping crate only applies to kits delivered outside of the UK.

Watched a documentary some years ago about Knock-down (KD) Land Rovers being built in India (I think). The Knock-down kit is/was a way to mitigate import taxes in various countries. So the kit was delivered from, in this case, the UK in a number of packing cases.
The factory building the vehicles had a side industry running in its carpark where the packing cases were being recycled into furniture.

That crate is turning out to be pretty useful. I’m currently using mine as an outdoor workbench. Keeps all those aluminum shavings outside!

You may want to slap some fence paint/preserver on it so it can last a bit longer...

Although some have claimed that it a myth, I do like the story of Henry Ford specifying the timber used for crating the parts delivered to his factory, so that it could be repurposed as eg floor boards and seat bases. I've heard that even the offcuts were used... turned into charcoal and sold. Hope it's true.
