Hey guys/girls. Im in the US. I am selling the car in my signature and starting my GTR project. The wife says one must go before I drop even more money into another car, lol. Anyway, I have built about 6 Mustangs and feel comfortable I can do an Ultima. If I read right, it says that it uses Ford brakes and spindles? Anyway, any info you could give me about your experience would be great!
PS, the car is for sale, so if anyone wants a true ass kicking, attention getting car(although, im sure not as much so as a Ultima) its forsale.
Makes 375hp, handles like on rails, cold a/c and is daily drivable. Enough about that car, i want to hear more about the Ultima!
Oh, one more thing. Anyone ever used a small block ford instead of a GM powerplant? Thanks!

Where in the US are you located? I am in New Jersey. To answer your question, YES you can use a small block Ford as opposed to a Chevy. I remember seeing a build where a guy used a Ford engine. I think you have to let the factory know ahead of time before your build so they can make minor modifications to the engine/transaxle adapter.

"it says that it uses Ford brakes and spindles"

I believe someone said it uses ford granada hubs and the base brake kit are off a granada also. Not sure what the US version of the granada was called.

Where on the east coast are you located. I am in baltimore, my canam just left the factory, can't wait to start working on it.

Thanks guys! I am in Va, not too far from you guys. I would love to see both your cars when you get them. I have been in the kit car market for a while now, and from what I can tell, for the money and looks, NOTHING compares to the Ultima. Here are my current cars, and none are really projects now so I am getting kinda bored, LOL. I was thinking that here in the US, we could save a lot on parts that we can buy aftermarket, such as radiator, interior and all bracking system, assuming we can figure out exsactly what it uses.
I am thinking you can get everything you need, all but the engine for around 23-24000, am I correct? I see it says that the total kit with no engine is 27K, so if i could knock it down to about 23-24000 I would be quite happy. I do a lot of my own fabrication and really would like to stick to a Ford engine. I think a 4 valve cobra motor with twin turbo's should make roughly 670-700hp with ease, and still be daily driven :-) One thing I am pretty sure about is sticking to EFI. Nothing wrong with a carb, but I am an electronics guy and love the dependibility of EFI. Well, let me know what ya think about my plan and about my train of thoughts on the price of the kit. I may be off on the price, and read it wrong, lol.
See you later!

Nobody uses the ford granada brakes any more. The few that did have upgraded to proper brakes. Granada ones are not up to the job and look tiny and therefore ridiculous sitting behind a huge alloy wheel. You will be laughed at if you use them.

Not to bring the bad news but your estimate is way off. Stages 1-17 run about 27622.00. You can cut some cost by using different brakes and shocks. Don't forget little things like customs is going to charge you 2.5%, then in MD I am going to pay 5% when I register it. I estimate the car is going to cost around 55K-65K all said and done.

"One thing I am pretty sure about is sticking to EFI"
I am not sure if it matters but I think someone said the gas tanks are not pressurized. This may be an issue with going with a modern EFI system.

My first order ran 34K and included 1-17 minus the brakes and shocks + the following.

second gass tank 776.00
CHASSIS Roll cage single hoop $811
Alloy double skin kit $317
Gas strut kit for rear canopy $99
BODY Remove flash lines $855
Set of body grills in black anodized expanded alloy $317
Ultima electric door mirrors pair $494
Sealed side luggage containers $247
Prefit body, hinges and catches $500
Side lights $520
Triple headlight kit $670
Relays and fuses. $130
13" x 18" & 9" x 18" split rim set $3084
switches $116

Glad to see more people in area, I live in VA too. Certainly not trying to insult your intelligence, but depending on what site you are getting prices from, it may be listed in English Pounds instead of USD, which means every Pound is about $1.50.

Mark, glad to hear your kit is on the way, I plan on being in Newark DE the weekend before Thanksgiving, maybe we can meet up and I can take a look.

Ok, what am i missing here?
Stage 1-17
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
$27622.00

From what I can tell, that is the basic kit, correct? Then you have all your usuall stuff like lights, etc... Why isnt that in one of the stages anyway? I mean, the car is useless with no lights, and other stuff, unless its going to be a "track only" car.
As I stated, I see where I can save about 4-5 grand on buying aftermarket stuff(ie: radiator) so besides all the BS like customs and other stuff, I dont see where it should be so much higher than 30K or so?

My first order was just shy of $67,000, which included just about everything except the engine, sound system, and fire system. (We later ordered the dry sump tank and leather dash trim, both of which are awesome.) Good luck.

The base kit doesn’t include anywhere near all the parts you need. Your also going to need 90% of the stuff listed as accessories. My order above for 34K contains everything from the factory that I feel I can’t get locally for much less. I still need the following major components.

·Shocks 800-2000
·Rear wing. 600-3000
·disc brake and calipers + parking brakes 2000-3000
·Chevy 350 5000-12000
·Exhaust system for small block Chevrolet 2100
·G50 transaxles 6000
·Transaxle invert kit and breather kit. 300
·Engine/transaxle adapter - Chevy/Porsche 600
·Clutch kit 500
·Seats + sliders + belts 1000
·Instruments + gauges. 600
·Tires 1200

Even on the low end you got another 20K. Now you are at 54K. I have run the number several time and always end up around 60K. I am sure if you really go all out and source parts cheap you could get it down around 40-45K. I just not sure you would still have the super car the ultima was meant to be. I don’t want to discourage you from buying one, but you need to realize what you are getting into.
