This is my first foray into self-build.

Has anyone managed a GTR build in a single garage? I have a space of (8.5 x 15)feet, a clear height of 12 feet, and a large shed for storage.

Although I think there will be for example farm buildings available within 10 or 20 miles, I would not be happy to entrust £20k worth of parts to a site without property security.

I know the single garage is impractical, but would it become feasible if the build was carried out to some stage by the factory?

I would appreciate any advice/short stories of experience with limited build space.

Thanks

David

I am awaiting my chassis so have not 'started' yet but many before you have built kit cars on their drive let alone a single garage. The main thing will be to build a dolly to put the chassis on whilst you build it. It's on casters so you can push it against one wall to work on the other side and vice versa. You can also push it outside. See www.ultima-gtr.info/ for details of how to build one or post on here for someone who has finished with theirs.

The most space consuming time is when you are putting the body on. You really need room for the chassis and space to work on the other parts - sidepods, centre section etc. If you can store them somewhere else and just bring them in when you need to work on them you should be fine.

The moving dolly with caster would be very useful. I didn't have one and spent ages moving it around to get to different parts. If I did the buid again I would definitely go for something moveable.

Good luck

Hi David

Due to some unforeseen circumstances I started building my GTR in my single garage yesterday. Looks like it wont be as bad as I thought. A full diary can be found at www.m250.co.uk (shameless plug!)
