I was having a little discussion with Roadrunner about the merits of a GTR vs a Radical or XTR2, on the Porker forum. Please reassure me that he doesn't know what he is talking about here... 'xtr2 beats ultima on track'???

Roadrunner said: Dom, compare like with like.

A new factory built ultima costs £70k (got a quote). A new built xtr2 cost £20k. Xtr2 beats ultima on track - simple. Even if you discount your own time in terms of build costs over the months, you still have £45k v £20k. The argument of second hand is still the same. A used Radical is £20k, used ultima is £40k. Your paying £20k extra for a roof. Add on top of that the difference between 5mpg and 40mpg and your looking at another few hundred quid a month. Why? It doesn't add up for what it is.

Two totaly different cars for a start. Westy is a short sprint car, Ultima's are True GT Endurance Cars.
Hard to comare realy, built for two different stiles of racing.

As I've said before there's Quality that last's and there's cheap...

PS Bike engine that now pulls twise it's original intended weight, Chevy V8 that now pulls about 2/3 it's normal car wait. Which Engine do you think is going to last the longest on a Tour of Italy ???

A new built XT2R costs 28k built or 20k in kit. Also if you think the Westie will do 40mpg your being optimistic my Kawa ZX6R did aroung 36mpg was less than half the capacity and weight. My ultima averages 15mpg and most cars drop to around 8mpg on the track.

The westie is half the weight of my Ultima with similar weight distribution so will be more agile on the tight twisties.

My Ultima will destroy the Westie on the straights regardless of the gearing the westie choses to use.

Thats like saying there is no point buying a Ferrari as a skyline just as good. They are totally different types of car each with their own pros and cons.

An Ultima is a Road version of a track proven car. Not wanting to upset westfield but the XTR is hardly a proven platform as yet. An XTR is a superlightweight track special with a modest powerrtrain and a totally different driving experience to a Ultima. They are both very fast cars unboubtebly.

An Ultima can be used as a day to day car unlike an XTR. Eventhough they are a similar power to weight the driving experience is totally different. If you want to go fast above 100 mph the Ultima is the only way to go. If you want loads of tourqe get an Ultima. If you want a sequential gearbox ans a superlight weight car get an XTR.

The best advice is to try both and then decide what you prefer. The money arguemnt is not a good enough reason to not buy an Ultima, after all why not get a Megabusa Westfield if money is such a concern? As for mentioning MPG what a prat! He doesnt dereve a performance car if he is worried about MPG!

or more pertinent - what do you want to use the
car for - just track days or a bit of general road
use too..

Neither would make a very good shopping car !
