Ultima Survey!
Discussion
It would be interesting to know what people are driving (or building) and where.
I am building a Canam, completion expected Feb 2003, all the usual refinements, 4 wheels, 2 seats. Dirty great engine, Basically Factory standard. I am based in preston. Also my brother is building a GTR but he hasnt mastered how to use a PC yet he he.

Let get to more interesting subjects, lets do a survey.
What Ultima do you have?
Who built/building it?
How long has it been on the road?
Any interesting modification?
I've got one and a half Ultimas. A metallic green Mark 4 Sports built by me and on the road since Sept. 99. 350 Chevy with a puny 332 bhp (still enough to engender buttock clenching fear: Stig are you paying attention) and a G50/50 with LSD. Heavily modified cooling system with extra radiator, second water pump (electric) and engine bay extraction fans. I'm a belt and braces man but my car never overheats. Stereo, heater, aircon, rear vision camera, plumbed in extinguisher and carpets. Quite civilised. Has never let me down but have replaced the dampers (didn't like the originals) and one of the fuel pumps.
Just started building a GTR. Will be a V8 Chevy but don't know which one. Getrag 6 speed on order (the only new box I can afford) but wish they made one with half the cogs. Have some ideas to improve cockpit ventilation which, IMHO, is the main problem with road going Ultimas on hot days. Build a Canam? No thanks, am slightly agoraphobic.

What Ultima do you have? Red Sport, fixed wing
Who built/building it? Me over 4 years. Amazed to see there are still a few Sports being built.
How long has it been on the road? 18 months, just in time for Le Mans 2001.
Any interesting modification? Nothing outrageous, full roll cage, a few civilised mods such as natural ventilation to enhance air con, engine bay fans to push out some of that hot air from the engine bay, useful in southern Europe in summer. Hey l can think of another use for those now.

Who built/building it? Part me part factory
How long has it been on the road? August 2002

Bog Standard 644BHP all alloy block 377ci ( bored 350 ci) dry sump, 18 degree edelbrock/chapman head, bespoke exhaust from primary designs, 6 speed G50 and stack system
GMan
Yellow Mk4 Sport
Built by Reading University students between 1193 and 1996. Taken mostly to bits and rebuilt (properly this time) by me in winter 2000/2001.
Special mods: It only has a small 4.8l Rover V8 giving max power of 330BHP, but I've concentrated on getting it to go round corners reasonably well, and scrub off speed extremely well (I've outbraked many Caterhams on the race track). Bodywork mods include the addition of multiple air ducts and vents to try to control engine/gearbox temperature.

GTR Chassis only at the moment
Will be ordering Yellow bodywork after Crimbo
Obviously building it myself
Mods to include will be Twin Garret turbo chargers with watercooled intercoolers on a 350ci engine, with 1105 AFR CNC heads. Motec M48 Sequential FI, ADL dash and instrumentation.
Custom wiring in Raychem type 44 ala F1 and race prep cars....mmm thats about it for the moment.
Estimated time to completion (depending on how well my company does) June 2004

Am building a Can Am which should be on the road by Spring of 2003. Have replaced all 1/2" suspension bolts with aircraft bolts of proper shoulder length.
Using Stack Dash.
G50 box has oil cooling and pressure spray bar for gears.
Left hand cill shift on LHD car.
Have spent the last month creating a CAD generated wiring schematic of the Ultima loom.
All switches and extra dials are on a fold down center section in dash.
Added a dead pedal.

First of all, I'm in Australia.
I bought a yellow spyder last week.
It was built by the UK factory in 1998.
It has a 302 windsor with alloy heads and GT40 injection. Also has rosejoint suspension, intrax shocks, 16" and 17" wheels and a Carrera G50.
I also own a lotus clubman with a 400hp turbo rotary and a Formula 3000 car. I traded my Lotus Elise on the Ultima.
