Stig,

As a first time visitor to your website, what can I say? Absolutely stunning!

After seeing a few of these fine beasts at various PH meets I simply have to have one when finances allow.

Looking forward to seeing yours...

Truly excellent!

Matt.

CJ, Surely when you're spending so much cash on a dream car - you'd have the brains to make sure the engine actually fits ???
Did you speak to Ultima before hacking away at it with a blunt saw ??

I think Dave's being a bit harsh, maybe a bit more accuracy would have helped.
As for what revs will it generate Vez, imagine the noise with that tasteful hole in the rear bulkhead.

Surely this can't be safe ???

Stig's jazz mag collection has even been raided in the course of the build...

A noble sacrifice, Stig

Is the use of pornography as masking material a factory-approved technique, or one you've decided upon yourself?

Hi Matt,

I am still a month away from taking ownership of a chassis number. Then I will be competing for slowest build time ever, as I only own a pair of pliers and some garden shears.

Also, I have recently negotiated the purchase of an oversized garage, complete with 3 bed house.

I assume that's a tongue in cheek posting!

Of course I checked and indeed it does, albeit with some modification. If you think that I didn't talk to Ted & Co. before then you're even more naive than your post.

As with all things, whoever does it first is inevitably going to encounter some development issues. Since yesterday, both the air filter and the bulkhead issues have been resolved.

When is the big switching on scheduled for?

From your build it looks like there are some areas that are rather complicated (I admit to getting lost in that bit about the laser level). Would you say its too complicated for someone with good but limited to a particular mark technical knowledge?

I.e. I am alright with the Mini, can do most things, not sure if I would entrust 200mph to my automotive ability though...

Matt.

I hardly think that the Sunday Mail supplement qualifies as a jazz mag mate Or are you still looking through the underwear section of Kays catalogue with a box of Kleenex?

Stig, how have you resolved the unplanned hole and the rear canopy ?? Let us beginners know so we don't fall in to the same trap.

Incidentally what did Ted say about the engine being too big ??

Keep on revvin, Famous

Matt, dunno when she'll get fired up as I'm waiting for the exhausts. There's no reason why she shouldn't be ready to go by the weekend!!!

As far as building one goes, approached in a logical manner a 'factory spec' car is pretty straightforward and if you do get stuck, Ultima are more than happy to supply an answer (and quickly too!).

However, the more you deviate from this, as I have, the more involved you need to get in the why's and wherefores as it becomes a case of knowing exactly what does what rather than just connecting plug A into socket B etc.

But that's the fun of building one!

Right, firstly let me say that the hole came as no great surprise to me after measuring up the engine and in fact, Ted suggested checking it before I started. He also supplied me with some engine mount adaptors which move the whole lot 25mm backwards. The trouble is (and it's a rod I made for my own back), the physical nature of superchargers mean that they sit high and they have to be long enough to take a drive from the engine crank pulley. With the GTR, the rear bulkhead slopes back as it goes up until there's a short 'lip' to flatten the panel off so that the canopy can rest against it. Unfortunately, just at the point where it does this the supercharger input shaft sits.

It makes very little difference to the bolkhead, but enough to have to put a hole in it so that the shaft and belt don't foul the bulkhead - especially as engines don't sit dead still when running!

I've already fabricated an ally box which, when covered with carpet on the cockpit side and heat insulation on the engine side, will be indistinguishable from the original panels.

But it's not worth Ted making up a Cockpit moulding just for Supercharged cars ('cos mine's the only one!) and there's no smaller charger (that I know of) that will solve the problem as they're all just as long.

Keep an eye on the site this week and I'll show you how I solved it!
