I know this thread has been done to death but reading ultimaandy's comments on heat in the cockpit I am getting a little concerned.
I am about half way through final fitting of my body, my side pods are secured in place with my front and rear bulkheads drilled and ready to go. Am I to late??
Andy Do you have aircon in yours?
If not, do you have ventilation as suggested?
Anyone else who owns or is building a canam I would be interested to here your thoughts & suggestions.

I must admit after I got the car on the road I thought I really needed air con and would consider it in the future.

However I now think it won't work and the best option will be to duct air from the front of the car into the cockpit.

The problem is that hot air gets into the cockpit and all you can do is blow it around with the heater fan, it doesn't exit the car, the only air that enters is pulled from the rear thus its the heat from the engine bay.

I doubt it will be a problem with the low screen.

It's amazing how effective the full screen is, I have driven the car in the rain without the roof and anything over 20mph saw no rain at all in the cockpit, even at 70mph!

Is this a design flaw? Shouldn't the air coming in have a way out?

I would have thought that with a Can Am there was plenty of places for the air to come out!!!

As has been said there's a huge space for the air to come out but the airflow over the screen traps a pocket of air in the cockpit. This is fine if you don't want your hair blown around.
Also, as the air curls over the top of the screen it causes a slight downdraft at the back of the seats. It is this downdraft that is pulling the hot air from around the engine cover and bringing that into the cockpit.
The trapped air will stay there unless you break the vacuum by providing a flow of fresh air to the dash or footwell to replace that which is trapped.

Duct air into the front of the car. Your right, the heater has no fresh air intake, this may be addressed with duct work that attaches to the air inlets on the heater fan.

Design Flaw, err...... I think is shows how good the design is, as it proves how efficent the airodynamics are!

Of cause if you built an airbox to take advantage of the air duct behind your head the problem would be solved.

However getting a blowback from the engine and setting fire to your hair would be a possibility.

Another option that I am considering is a glass screen in the roll bar, our boxter has this and it would certainly solve the problem! Still prefer the fresh air solution though.
