Track spec GTR tested in EVO.
Discussion
Re DeR's comment, he got slightly the wrong end of the stick - sorry Simon!
Basically, Derestrictor's Turbo 4 is cosseting compared to the 911RS. The 911RS however, feels less of a race car and less compromised than an Ultima on the road but not in terms of suspension compliance. In fact, the Ultima ride was extremely good when I went out with Guy, and although a noisier cabin, I would say that it was on the whole comparable with the 911RS - if not more comfortable
My main warning re road use of Ultima was how low you are, lack of rear vis, low front splitter grounding out.
It looks like I will be getting an Ultima this month, so these are not major concerns as far as I am concerned, anyway.

Hasn't the original subject been covered already?
Most mods have been mentioned here, AFAIK.
The only point left to ad is that I was under the impression that the wide track option only contibuted to a saving of 0.1 sec on track (or something), so it wasn't a massive improvement. This suggests that it may not be standard in the future, and may not even make it onto the options list. Not sure though - maybe the factory will comment at some point.

You know what, Domst?
Thinking about your impending Ultimasation, I am really rather looking forward to it.
Why? Well, on your next 'oop Nowf' jaunt to the wrong side of the Pennines, you can pootle over to the land of scurrilous peasantry and demonstrate to the Cheshire set just why their poodle friendly toupee transports are but feckless fancies of fickle frippery, next to the might of 6.3 acres of Uncle Sam's finest Illinois beef.
And if incontinence reigns within mes pantalons, then it makes my musings all the clearer.
I keep thinking black with split rimmery would look utterly devastating. But do you have to have the Derek Bell right handed shifting rod? (I can't stop looking at the rear three quarter profile - it's a simultaneously brutal yet gorgeous creation!)
Marvellous.

JCof T.O. said: I had my wife drop by the local bookstore on her way home and pick me up EVO. I now have the January issue but I could not find an Ultima article. Is it the Febuary issue?
Yes.
It has a picture of the Bugatti Veyron on the front cover.

This vehicle looks like one of those colourful Doc Martens that were all the rage between 1979 and 1982.
Still, it annoys Gordon Murray so it can't be all bad.
(A tad harsh on the undoubted genius of Sir Murray but he really does get wound up if anybody does things differently to 'his way.')

Tell you what, Daz, 0-124 in 6 secs? Deary me..
Yes but they are not aware that The Ultima Lightweight RS Domster spec is about to go into limited production. So they shouldn't be holding that record for long. I can't imagine G Man is going to sit on his hands either.

Bennno - I hope you've not got tired of TVR bashing and moved on to Ultimas.
If you have - you'll soon get removed
As far as the scorch marks go, I think that you'll find that the flames that get spat out on downshifts do it. Check some of the videos on the factory site for a visual demonstration.
not bashing them, think they are wicked. if i had a double garage, a ahem 'flexible' job, understanding wife & sufficient money then I would be building one yesterday.
still remains that the red one in Evo caught fire at donnington and had to be towed from the circuit, think it may have been the owner of ultima driving - assuming its him that also drives an bm 8 series with a reg number that looks like ultima.
had conversation with him afterwards and think it was something to do with a combination of unburnt fuel, a ruptured oil line and the RH gearshift. the question of the burn above the d/s rear exhaust was mentioned and the question of it being a gel coat colour came up i wonder if he just did the other side to match it??
this is not a wind up, it can be confirmed by other pheaders that were there at the same time

Well, some of you already know that I am a massive fan of Ultimas and I would absolutley love one if they weren't so expensive....but I saw the factory one catch fire too...although they managed to fired it back up again later and drive it home. I think it was just unburnt fuel in the exhaust. Got to say that it was the only car which passed me and pulled out much of a gap all day at Donnington and I was mightily impressed....
One day, I WILL have one!!

You can have a central gear change if you want, I think this is easier to arrange for the cable change 996 box.
All the best DeR

Happy New Year Dom....spanners and wrenches at the ready when you are....not that I'm trying to get you out of your sporty Beetle or 'owt !
Cheers,
Greg
And to you Greg.
I will let you know what the spanner situation is like when some more progress is made re purchase of the bits. I am also getting hold of a garage (with house attached ).
Then I'll purchase Stig's spare dremel, buy a dollytrolley type thing off someone who's completed theirs, and get the rivet gun out...
Cheers

To set the record straight, after a chat earlier with the factory, it was actually a glitch with an experimental gearchange that stopped the car. Richard (Ted's son) was driving and wisely pulled off the circuit to avoid an incident. After spanking round for a while, the car was understandably reluctant to start (any TVR owner will know how this feels) as the car was also running with a tiny experimental battery. This flooded it and the resulting 'fire' was actually just some unburnt fuel that ignited in the silencer (so I was half right .
The car was towed back to the paddock where the problem was fixed with no further problems.
The Bimmer driver was indeed, Ultima Ted - which is not to say that he uses it as an experimental testbed for Ultima development
Not having a go Bennno, just making sure the record is set straight as there's enough speculation and conjecture on this forum already!!
Please....lets convince Ted@Co. that he needs this motor for his Track Spec GTR! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33615&item=1876246569
