Very nice indeed. Except that you appear to have fitted your steering wheel to the wrong side of the car

That what we were trying to avoid, the ultra cluttered thrown together look!

Im sorry but in my opinion the factory setup with its switches and lights looks to kit car to me, especially after seeing the men and motors program "a race car is born" with there layout of switches and lights being similar!

But as stig says, each to there own, the photo doesnt really do it justice, oh and that fire extingisher pull isnt SVA compiant!

One of the most functional and impressive bits (other than our instrument panel) on our dash is the fuel pump "KILL" switch (borrowed from a fighter plane).

GTRCLIVE said: SVA Rules on switch gear on dash etc. The area 127mm around the outside of the streering wheel is free, as the mans Imitation head will not hit it. If it does, then Stig can do what I did with my Cutoff switch, just use a 20mm hole cutter on a Tennis ball, and slide it over the top. PASS. Needless to say the tennis ball is for hire..

Stig how do I put up a picture like you just have ??

Just use HTML tags. Don't you engineering types know about that sort of stuff?

Just put < IMG SRC="url to the picture" > but without the spaces

PS. The extinguisher pull is within 127mm of the wheel. So nurr nur ne nurr Besides, as I said to Paul, if it's a problem for SVA it's no big deal to pull it out and replace afterwards.

No probs Ken. It's still a good idea to check your own layout though (caveat emptor applies!). Remember to also think in terms of what's behind the switches too.

B1 ECC said: like the Stack unit in stig's photo (although not to sure about black on white ) and the swithgear layout to the right, but i have to say the centre section looks a bit vague.

Oh' with regard to the SVA, if memory serves, nothing must protrude more than 9mm beyond a 200mm radius of the steering wheel rim.

Ah, but the Stack goes nice and blue at night

Not sure what you mean about the centre section looking vague? It's pretty darn obvious what they all do! I thought about adding a couple of dials a la the Red demonstrator, but seeing as al the info. is available through the Stack setup, it seemed pretty pointless.

Spartan is to my taste, but as I said, not to everyones.

Should it? I must have missed that shot in the build manual then

How do you see the warning lights (switches?) behind the wheel when you're travelling straight ahead? (ie. with the wheel horizontal as shown).

Stig, Yeh, Spartan would be a better discrption, but as you said if it works for you then there's no contest. Again on a personal view I don't think the round guages go well with the Stack dash, i've been wanting to fit a fuel pressure guage that would compliment the Stack dash but I haven't found one, round just doesn't do it.

Doesn't the Stack dash have an input for a fuel pressure sender?

Clive,

Edited to say: I had a copy of this pic. and have moved the link so it's visible by all

That's a link to the members area of the Ultima Owners Club site, which means that it's only visible if you have access to the members area.

Clive - is that an FIA kill switch?

If not, have you tried using it with the engine running????

My dash is a bit more utilitarian than the rest of you.

Having been in the car, it's the 'Cardboard Fibre'(tm) instrument pod shade that I was most impressed with

It's super lightweight .

I suppose I could have made it out of "Space Age Materials", but by the time I got to realising that I needed it (between practice and qualifying of my first race) I didn't have any unobtanium with me, or the facilities to precision grind it to the correct profile. So, I resorted to best race car prep practices. I used a bit of cardboard and some Gaffer Tape.

Two questions if you folks don't mind.

Adequatespeed: What do the little red buttons on the wheel do? Read your great build site but I didn't run into a descrption.

GTRClive: What is that little "pod" on the right side of the stack a few inches above the shifter on the dashboard? It looks like a set of LED's?

Thanks, great discussion by the way.

I believe one is the horn and the other toggles headlight full beam, though I stand to be corrected!
