That little pod Has 6 Green and 8 Red led's, They are both switched though the Stack ( and some relays as they are negitivly switched and the dash outputs are positive ). The Greens are Shift lights, and the Reds are warning lights ie. low oil pressure, low volts high water temp etc.... They are pointed to the drivers head, and when on you can not miss them.

Button on the steering wheel do indeed toggle the beam and the horn.

Extra buttons are to be added to allow dynamic re-configuration of the dash - between road layout (shown) track layouts. Just like the current WRC car systems.

Other buttons will control data logging, and scroll through warnings and stats.

Subsequently a set of warning shift lights have been added on the top of the dash pod - All controlled and configured from the dash systems.

As for the argument about the switches in the centre of the dash - i opted for that layout in the centre, as the area around the gear stick to the left of the wheel is very cluttered with all the switches and it is easy whilst driving hard to hit the wrong switches.

Putting them on a plate in the centre allows them to be swapped for toggle switches on a carbon plate in the future for the race car look. Finally the switches are designed to mount to a flat surface. This areas is quite curved and the detail on the edge of the switches looks a bit gash as a result.

Also the switches in the centre are not high workload are best kept out of the way of the main dash area. (tip from aircraft cockpit design)

Note: main functions like fuel pumps, main beam, and indicators are close to/on the wheel. Also the track dash displays will be minimal with all ancillary displays hidden unless they go out of pre-set range (again following cockpit design practice)

On the subject of making the car easier to drive it desperately needs an intermittent wiper function. It is a total pain in the arse in the wet!

Adspeed - Try using some form of rain clearer, Rain X etc. It works fantasticly with the shape of the Ultima screen. I drove from Southampton to Dover via Basingstoke for last years Le Mans trip in moderate to heavy rain, I only used the wipers about twice! The faster you7 go, the better it works

I think your dash layout will look far better with toggles and carbon .... I love the variety kit cars allow.

Why do you need the fuel pump switch near to the steering wheel? I only ever use mine when I'm stopping the engine, and I'm stationary when I do that. Also, it must be pretty easy to hit that damned great fighter plane donger you've got covering it (you can get a much more sensibly proportioned one from Demon Tweeks for a few quid), and end up shutting your pumps down.

On the wiper thing. I have a Mk4 Sport, and it has intermittent wipe. I think it was standard on them. If you need it, it's pretty easy to fit an intermittent wipe circuit out of just about any production car, or you used to be able to buy a kit from Halfords many years ago.

Andy,

That looks very neat and functional (just how it should do). What are the silver buttons near the wheel for? Even if they weren't connected, they make a nice touch

Not bad at all. Not too sure about the 2-tone wheel though?!?!

You did well getting the stereo in if you're running aircon!

James - I think the silver buttons are touch sensitive switches for the Stack.

You are correct the top four silver buttons are for the STACK, bottom one is the start Button, I had it engraved with the word 'Start'.

My air con is the removable roof but I do have a heat (bloody good it is to), it took a lot of work to get the stereo where it is.

The two tone wheel was somthing I worried about until I fitted it in the car, the picture makes it look out of place which it doesn't in the flesh. Main reason I chose it was because of the grip locations.

Once the feb meet is out of the way the STACK unil is going back to have a white face fitted.......but then it may clash with the colours of the stereo so may have to change that........Oh and then the furry dice may look out of place..............................

Good job on those buttons then Andy.

Interesting you went for leather given that the Canam is more prone to the elements.

White Stack's are very 'in' at the mo

Whats that thing in the middle, is it a stereo?

I presume you've got HUGE speakers and a 500w amp somewhere so you can hear it?

Still dont like the ancilary switches where the factory put them, they just dont fit properly!

So what about the area on top of the Alloy panel over the luggage container? (to the right on Ultimaandy's photo next to the gear lever) This seems to be within easy reach? There are a few brackets underneath but the switches might fit?

Also the Factory switches seem (to me anyway) rather bog standard. Have any other switches been used or would that require additional wiring work?

Love the Touch buttons tho'

Hate to piss on your fireworks Vez, but the curve has negligable effect on the switch flanges especially once the covering is on. Mine are all flush fit.

You presume incorrectly, I am in fact running only off of half of the head units capability, its like everything, match your components to exceed the sum of its parts.

I can't listen to the stereo without the roof above 50mph (engine is too loud), but with the roof on I can have a conversation at 90mph so listening to a stereo is no-problem.

My whole install including sound deadening (the reason its so quiet) added about 8kgs at most!

I searched high and low but couldn't find any SVA complient switches that look better than the factory ones. Not that I don't like them, only that I wanted to be different.
