Thanks for the link Crafty! If I cannot afford the Ultima, I can at least start with the engine. Hell, I could even put that in the Trans Am just to make sure it is good and broken in for when I do get the Ultima!!!

i think they are going for about $13995 from SPDC but i might be wrong!

also turnkey engine supplies are doing a tury key eninge for just under $20K. butthis one includes loads of stuff and should be an almost drop in and play enigne!

www.turnkeyenginesupply.com/Sand/70540.htm

they aslo have a 700bhp Kene bell supercharged LS2 making 700bhp for around the same price!

thanks Chris.

That's not really all that great a price imo (starting from $19'200). For just a bit more you could have a custom build, forged pistons, billet titanium rods plus other goodies and a mappable ecu with traction control etc which would have to be mapped per car. I've not heard good things about previous delphi ecu's in retrofit applications so this ecu will be very untested. Didn't see a MAF included in the package?

WOW boosted would you build a setup like that?? if so fpr what sort of price????

turnkey do most of their engines for dune buggies so its all speed density stuff i think.

Chris.

PS its SPDC that do the LS7 creat engines! sorry

The price quoted starts at $19200 (£11'162?) add £300 shipping x 25% (all the import rubbish) plus equals £14'327 appx.

I have a darton MID 427, custom bespoke forged pistons rings and pins, billet titanium rods, ls7 heads, my cast plenum, throttles and billet rail etc. It will be blueprinted all balanced and also cost appx £14k. There won't be any doubt's about some of the internals either plus I get to fit any cam I want. I can change the specs as I go along if need be. I've also got a turbo lsx here which cost appx £11k. Crank and rods are stock but it's custom forged pistons and a load of goodies inside, plus my cast turbo manifolds

That will be for a stock ls7 and may or may not include vat, I'm not vat registered Stock engines cost appx £9k before a profit margin and vat is added. I do know where those engines are coming from though but I'm not really interested in the stock engines. They have their faults and I would never race one in a proper race series!

The link posted above was for a slightly modified engine with some better parts then the stocker.

I didn't realise their 'source' was a secret.

the faults you talk about, are they for the LS7 as I thought it had titanium rods etc etc as std?

Funny things are ls7's. In many way's it's a brilliant piece of kit whilst in others the accountants have been penny pinching. The ls7 rods are forged titanium and cost $800 a set of 8 yet they are heavier then some steel rods! Billet aftermarket titanium rods cost $4k a set so there's a big difference in price/quality imo. Early rods had flaking issues. The pistons are cast cheapies and not forged ffs. Again, forged pistons are available which weigh less then the ls7 cast item. So you have to do a tear down if you want to go racing as the stock pistons won't be up to it. There are concerns with other parts as well which wouldn't be an issue in a street car. Lastly, I don't think there is a fully sorted retrofit ecu for this engine which is probably holding sales back. So, I'd plump for an ecu that's fully mappable and map it to suit the installation.

the faults from what i have heard of have been with the liners! they use a very britle iron liner than is very thin! the block is bsically a opened out ls2 casting with diffrent liners!

and a bare block will set you back $4K! the new world products LSX motor (an amazing piece of kit!!!) is about the same price and will take one hell of a lot more power!!!

i think it would be better to go with a LS2 thats taken out to 427 than the LS7 for big power! if you just doing bolt on mods then the LS7 will be more than strong enoguh!

thanks Chris.

The ls7 has had a lot of treatments in the prepping of the block and many get rejected. The liners are a press fit as opposed to other engines where they're cast in place. Downside is, blocks were never an issue, liners always were. While lth ls7 liner is better then the ls2 etc it's still going to break if there's any bad detonation.

The world products block has some interest to me but it's bound to be very heavy and I don't like that. I'm not sure if it's actually been used in anger either? Do you know any more about it Chris? My favourite block is the Darton MID and that's what I'll use for my project. I like the fact that liners are easily replaced and that they are 5 mm thick. There are other points that I like.

hey boosted, best to check out ask the guys (esp warhawk) on ls1tech!

from memory the block will only be 40 or so lb s heavier (def lighter than the iron block)

not seen on on the net that has been used yet! but i have heard of some very interesting projects using them! i think on shop is aming for about 2000hp from the block! this shpould be doable with the block. have seen pictures of the castings and the look massive!

this is definatly worth looking inot over the Darton block! it will be stronger and you can get a taller deck hight version of it for a few more cc's!

thanks Chris.

PS the heads to go with this block also look very good and should flow better than the LS7's!!!!!!
