Time on my hands - 600 bhp+ in the garage - time to play.

The dissapointment on start up .. my STack system voltage doesn't respond to it's usual 13v - down to 12.1v and sinking on running of engine ..

I think it's the alternator thats knackered .. is there any tests I could do to prove this theory ??

All help appreciated

G-Man, mine went west on me in the summer, about 2-3k miles old it was! To see if it's charging, check your battery with a multi-meter whilst the engine is running and then try it with the alternator disconnected. (the small wires, not the heavy one)

If the reading shows no change then I would suspect it is U/S.

When I removed mine it makes some awful grating noises and there is movement in the shaft, so I think the bearings are fcuked? I got mine from AS and to be fair he was more than willing to have it repaired but postage costs made it uneconomical. So I did the next best thing ...... nicked ultimaandy's (cheers mate
)

Also, if you have the fancy ali bracket, I had an awful time trying to re-fit the belt with these brackets with the engine fitted, so I resorted to my original cheapo bracket.

That's at home in the garage, I using the sensible 'Red' car since it's already dirty.
