Say you spend around 45k on a top spec build (4 pot Ap, 500bhp, G50 etc) what would you expect the re-sale value would be after say 1-2 years. I would expect 450+ hours self build to add maybe 16k (£35 hour) to overall value, around 60k worth of machine!!!! I would want at least 50k for my motor, does this sound right? cheer's.

P.s. Reason I ask is......wife wants to know how much of this 45k you intend to spend will you get back (quote)..she thinks 20k........

Resale is something I have looked into since with some vehicles there is money to be saved threw that route. However I have not found this to be true with Ultimas. There are a few used ones for sale on this page. You be the judge.

Sorry I was looking at how much my car will be worth after I spend 45k etc, I'm not looking at saving any cash, just interested in how much a self build could be sold for, after one invests 450 hours labour, cheers

DABOSS - The resale value of any kit car will never/hardly ever claw back the time & effort invested into it. If you expect to achieve a return any where near £35 per hour then let me know how it's done!

If you budget a build cost of £45k and you make a good job of the build, much more important than the spec sheet, then I would say a resale value today of Hmmmmmm £50-60k? This is only going by what is out there for sale at the moment, when I put a value on my car it was the only guild I had.

To try and look forward 2 years is a very dangerous thing. An uneducated guess would be say, £40-45k. Again, condition will be all. A high mileage car in VGC will hold its value far better than a low milage hound. Same could be said of any high end sports car probably!

Hope this helps, sorry to be vague but the question is unanswerable really .......... just tell the other half what you think she wants to hear and get on with building it

Paul, I am not interested in making £35 an hour on my build, as you have said you won't get this back, I'm more interested in the 45k parts cost!!! and it sounds/looks like you won't lose much which is very good don't you think? TVR tuscan would lose 12k in first year....and that's not taking into account any running costs (new engine's ;-0). I just can't fault this car on anything!!!

Cheers JCof T.O., but there are only two models on that link, one being a factory special, looking at the other, it seems you don't lose much if any.

You didn't look hard enough as there are actually others on the other pages, The site has been set up to go directly to the 'factory special'.

The old models (sports and spyder) still fetch £20-£35k even though they are more than a few years old.

One interesting trend is that the spec's (and as a result the cost) seems to be increasing as the years go by.
However the factory demo car (which is very track focused) is 'only' just over 400bhp and thats after many 500+bhp demonstrators, will this stop the trend or will it go on until only a 1000bhp will do.

Oi! Numpty, your not following your own advice

The car in question is not the factory demo, it's a yellow carbon fibre bodied jobbie! DMcD's car, factory built but not a factory demo car.
Have to largely agree with the rest of you spoutings though.

Maybe see you Sunday Andy ....

Paul

Point taken, I was using quoted words in the wrong context.
