It even looks like the headers would fit an Ultima. 525 net hp or about 625 SAE gross brake HP
(like AS measures)

Bingo,

Anyone with a newer motor now has a GM part number for the headers. Looks like a nice drop in motor for an Ultima.

I wonder if the headers would work on an LS1?

The headers won't work on an LS1. It's the current thin wall cast iron, extensively revised big block.
Keep in mind it's based on the current production truck/boat engine also Pro Stock Drag Racing if you prefer.
Keep in mind 333 kilos include headers, electronics, everything A small block chevy weighs 261 K without all the extras. Aluminum heads and block are available for this new engine too.
If your making 625 SAE Gross Hp, who cares if it's only 5400 rpm.

Well,....I think that my mind runs at european style. I still prefer my 497hp (at the wheel) at 7100 rpm instead the 525hp at 5400. I can´t accept a true racing car like the ULTIMA with a "chop, chop, chop" sound from the engine. For that a John Deere may be a better choice.

Do you ?

I agree, it's a boat anchor designed for a truck. They're still using iron. It may last forever but it's hardly a leap forward.

People will be divided by this type of engine in an Ultima.

My view is that it needs and engine much more like a Ferrari.... ie loads of revs. Why would a race car need a lazy engine (even with huge HP), thats more of an engine for a big merc or something.

Oh and its way to heavy at 333kgs, it'd ruin the handling and balance of the car.

OF cause. Just my view

I have been working on the spec for the engine I am building.
The Chevy Talk forum regularly talks about torque being everything and the lower in the rev band the better.
When I posted my proposed engine spec. they told me why it was wrong.
They are producing engines to power SUV’s and Pickups that weigh 3500 to 4000 pounds and use 3 speed auto transmission. The engine has to have torque and over a wide band to cope with the rev drop between gears.

They said an Ultima at 2200 and with 5 speed manual shift needed revs and power in the top of the rev range. They were also rather jealous

They amended my spec slightly ending in these figures.

RPM Torque HP
2000 231 88
2500 366 174
3000 426 243
3500 482 321
4000 530 404
4500 552 473
5000 542 516
5500 515 540
6000 480 548
6500 420 520
