Whilst I've always used Pete Baldwin in Cambs. for my rolling road sessions in the track car (he's king of the carbs), I'd like to get the GTR properly checked out once it's run in and don't think his road is up to the job.
For this, I need a road that can take the power/torque of my wee beasty and someone who knows their way around a Chevy with carbs (and a supercharger of course!).
Any recommendations?

You might want to check out G-Force. They're used to tuning racing Porkers but the Evo boys go there regulary for their RR days.
According to www.g-force-motorsport.co.uk/ their RR will cope with up to 1800bhp although apparently it only copes with 1200bhp at the rear wheels

It would be very interesting to see what your engine (Stig) puts out on the chassis dyno - hell I would even pay for the labour to take it out and put it back again - no joke!

Seriously, crank power means squat, it's what's at the wheels that makes the difference.
I'm not bothered about trying to wring every last bhp from it, just want to get the mixture setup right as it's running uber rich at the mo.

I am not trying to incite a riot, moreso would be very interested in putting to bed the rumours in American / English bhp discrepencies, and of course to see what your art-form of an engine puts out.. as carried out by a 3rd party.
As for my last remark to pay for the out of the engine, then the offer still stands...what have you got to lose? Also it confirms the figures for power losses through the G50 box. I too have a six speed G50 so it is of genuine interest to me.
Of course if you are worried that your lump doesn't push that out then thats ok because we will never know

Si, I'm fully prepared for my engine to put out far less than the dyno sheet implies. The same is true for every 'performance' car I've ever owned. But I don't see any reason to take it out to do it!
We're back the the pub-talk/willy waving thing if we all start trying to compare bhp. I'm happy that the car is plenty fast enough as it is
Like I said earlier this is not about mine is bigger than yours. Hell there are Ultima's with engines that cost £35k and more. I am interested in what figures would be obtainable on an engine dyno.

The offer for financing the removal of you engine was genuine and to aid with my engine choice in builds to come.
I am having one of many engine built at the moment and am also interested to see what power these engines actually make against the claims of the engine builder. It's not pub talk as you call it, just business - after all we are paying good money for these engines so if an engine builder does a good job then credit where credit is due etc, so what have you to worry about? Don't forget the whole point of a forum like this is to discuss our cars and obviously the engine is "the" focal point in a vehicle as honed as this. These cars can only be improved upon by passing information back and forth between ourselves and the factory. If we choose to close the door with "pub talk" then we are denying the very information that allows the cars to evolve.
If your Ult is only giving you 9 mpg when driven gently, then I can see why you would want to get it set up on a dyno. You do make me laugh sometimes Stig, as any conversation which involves power of engines is eventually labelled by you as "willy waving"... It's just not true with this example, and why if you associate the two did you buy a 600hp odd motor anyway?? Just my 2p worth, and of course as always no malice intended.

Si, it's damage limitation on my part, having been accused of said 'willy waving' whenever I've mentioned power in the past.
These days, I'd rather just enjoy the car than waffle on about what it can/cannot do.
I've got no problems with letting the forum know how I get on (that's one of the reasons that it exists) and, as you correctly surmised, with 9mpg you can see why I'd like to get it checked. It's not so much the consumption as the range that's irritating.

The best dyno I know of is Abbey motorsports hub dyno. Bolts directly to the wheel hubs (with wheels removed) so you eliminate wheel spin on the rollers which can be a problem with 500+bhp cars, especially lightweight ones. They're favourite with the big power jap cars at the moment, also known for their work with 5,6,700bhp porsche racing cars of all types. Might be worth a look.
Simon - as you know you very nearly had your wish as mine nearly went to Peter for a tune and Dyno run prior to this weeks excersions.
This unfortunatelly was impossible due to time constaints as the engine had to go back in and the car was wisked away for its new exhaust. It also proved uneccesary as the car is running 100% and so didn't need it and it would only have ended up as a self indulgent excercise.
It wouldn't actually resolve much anyway as someone would always say 'they also overstate there figure take it to ....' or ' they fiddled it so it made less power' etc.
On the road the diferences between most Ultima's is not that big as you can't use all the power anyway.
The real proof will be when your 550bhp (or whatever) car leaves my car for dust on a track. However even then someone will say it was the driver etc...

Simon ...... I'm the one who is mainly the guilty party for 'moaning' about the BHP figures that have been banded about on here in the past. It was also me that labeled it as 'Pub Talk/Willy Waving'
Respect to you for your offer to Stig. I also understand your reasoning, and a damn fine way of getting some acurate 3rd party info.
I would also like to think that I had a big part in getting people away from the rethoric of dyno sheets, speculation and into their cars with the purpose of enjoying them! After all, they are all fcuking quick!
You obviously feel the need to know exactly what your getting with your engine, and why not! I on the other hand I already know what I'm getting .... ENOUGH .... (I did build my engine though. So maybe I have no need to worry about having got value for money)

I just wanted to put the record straight on the first point and give a brief reminder that things were getting a tad tiresome on this subject some time back.
