Lucky,

What type of vents did you end up using?

Some appear to use Audi TT ones, but what other have been used successfully?

Anyone successfully used a doner control panel?

cheers

Keith
On the top of the dash are audi/VW open grills. On the side are RAV4 rotating closing units.

Look in the classifieds at the interior of the silver Sports, it's has one of the best interiors I have ever seen in a 'self build' I looked at this close up at Stoneleigh once and just couldn't fault it, only wished I had some spare to buy it.

Like the look of that dash display. I am doing something very similar, but thinking of using the Aim XML Strada dash instead...

http://www.aimsports.com/products/mxl-strada/index...

It's also about £500. Was there a reason for chosing the Race Technology one over the Aim? Just out of interest as I will be purchasing soon...

Cheers, Mart
I did look at the Aim but it has a couple of things that are not SVA compliant - odo is resettable and speedo does not display the scale (mph or kph). So it was a no-go from the start. Also Race Tech has a neat GPS datalogger addon which means you can drive any track and get lap/sector times without having to use transponders... I'll add that when I can afford it :-)
Hi again duchess,

Are you sure about the Aim dash? I thought that the display included a speed unit....

Not sure if an SVA tester would be able to reset the odo? Depends how deep it is buried in the menus... Has anyone used an Aim dash and got it through the SVA OK????

Cheers,

Mart

OMG ! Too much info on a little screen for me. A Stack for me every time a little pricy but easy to operate and understand.

Blimey Mart - if I'd seen that pic of the dash I may have made a different choice! You know I looked into it earlier this year and I'm sure that's the conclusion I came to. Maybe I'm getting senile in my old age :-(

I have to say the aim LCD looks much clearer, but personally I think the unit has too many lights and buttons for me and the speed reading is too small.

I know for a fact that the GTR is way more capable than my driving, and also I'm a gadget lover, so if I had a dash with buttons on it I'd be forever fiddling rather than watching my driving; in the GTR that'd be suicidal. So I want the minimum fuss in my car's interior - for example I plan to link the race-tech dash to the fuel tank select switch so when I toggle to the other tank the dash automatically changes.

Andrew.

I had intended to use the MXL Strada dash in my Ultima...

I don't see any reference at all to Odometers in the March 2004 version of the SVA Inspection manual.....I see where they mention the speedometer, but not the Odometer.

Have I missed it ? Has there been an update to the rules since March 2004 ?

I hope not...
Regards

Kelvin

Just been setting out my dash board. Decided to make some scale cutouts of all the switches / controls and use some bluetack!

I got the pods from Pilgrim cars. They are really nicely finished and I would recommend talking to them if anyone is after a dash pod...

My only problem is making the radio and the top air vents miss the aircon unit... Guess this is a common problem... Anyone done some neat solutions?

Cheers,

Mart

I put a new face on my dash, moving it 3/4" towards the driver. Due to the way the sides are splayed out, this made it about 1 1/2 wider on each side, allowing me to move the "radio" (hehe) away from the AC. There's a drawing in the thread below, a photo on page 1 of that thread.

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

LuckP posted his built-in vent solution just after I'd done mine otherwise I'd have done it that way to save space.

Cheers Crafty,

The problem I have is that if I bring the whole dash forward, the steering wheel will end up really close to the driver. My headlight switch is behind the indicator stalk so I cannot recess the stalks as they will interfere...

I was thinking of moulding something around the radio area to bring it forward and to the side... It may just clear as it is, but it is tight.

It's only when you start fitting the dash in that you realise why people go for a standard setup!!

Do you know how much clearance there is between the dash and the top of the aircon? I am also thinking of doing something like Lucky has done with his for the airvents...

Cheers, Mart

You could do away with the "radio" altogether and install an ipod + amp that would make your life a whole lot easier.

GTW passed SVA with the Pista version, it has Odometer and trip. When I first powered up the dash (after 12 months of having it on the shelf) the Odometer read over 8000miles,
upon asking why the NEW dash had any mileage at all, they replied with an apology and said all the units come into the country unprogrammed, and before they send them out to there new owners they program them and put them on a simulator to check all the functions etc. They may have left it on to long, (must have been lapping Lemans that weekend to get 8K on it)... but could not give us a new one as it was over 12months since we bought it. So they sent it back to Italy to rest the Odometer to zero, as they can't do that here....

So fully SVA legal, and I was impressed enough by it to buy my own......

Perhaps you saw the Odo trip was restable not the Main Odometer.
Plus the Pista version has Gps track learning software inbuilt just buy the Track Beacon (which Wayne has) and you can do all the track analysis you want, and it also has a inbuilt G Meter all loggable for that interesting drive home.....

Hi Davrianman

Dash looks great - did you need to extend the steering column to fit the stalks!

Cheers

I have not done yet, but it will need extending... I have a mate who is an aircraft TIG welder... Very handy.. :-) I think Stig had his done by the factory though if you need one...

The radio is a head unit for the car PC with a fold out touch screen. Starting to think an I pod and some headphones is the way to go...!

Hiya Clive! Hows life?
As far as I can tell it is the same for the MXL Strada version as well? I didn't really want to stretch to a Pista as it is another £500... Agree that it is probably the best value digi dash available. Would love a MOTEC, but at over £2000... dont think so...!

Mart, would you happen to have part numbers for the dash pods?

Thanks,
