BMW M5 V10 Engine
Discussion
I have not seen any GTR's on a Q plate yet.... and there must be at least 10 different engine types out there.... so I think that's just people being scared for no reason... but I understand it, SVA is very daunghting and I to was terrified by the process. But that's what this forums about, helping others get though it all....
and on the engine front, you don't buy a Ultima to blend in or be the same as the next guy..... and most all V8's (except maybe a Flat plain crank V8) tend to sound the same....
A V10 would just be that much nicer, and I think would tend to create a higher interest at shows and resale, more modern and well known for being a 200mph engine all ready...
If chevy did a compact 4 valve V12 then I would be in there but they don't.....
Be different, and I know a man that can help install, wire, and Map any engine if you need help.....

Good graph mate,
As you know the ultima is very light and with a very light car you don't need huge amounts of torque. The power curve of the V10 continues for another 1500 rpm after the ls7 has finished which will make fast driving a lot easier to manage. Another thing with the BMW the controls for emissions are massive and by remapping and removing them you instantly get LOTS (talks of 560bhp+torque) more power free of charge. All you have to do is make it a basic throttle bodied, injected engine. Don't forget this engine was developed from the F1 program.
Another thing you must remember is the resale to a potential buyer will be a lot more attractive than the common V8.
Please don't think I am bhing the chevy (please remember I have one) I am just being honest.

I don't think there's anything wrong with running the beemer engine. I have had a rather quick trip in the M5 in Germany driven by a professional driver and it's phenomenal! I like the idea of not struggling to get under 97db for track days and I like the sophistication and efficiency of more than two valves per cylinder. Come on, how many of us are really going to use all the power either engine offers anyway?
It's not a matter of racing pedigree either, crikey, alfa romeo have that and we're not putting those engines in our cars now are we...
Having said all that, it's not going to burble like an LSX will, and neither is the Audi however it will be different and after all it's down to personal choice. Me, I like to celebrate that and I think I'd be happy with either engine but for different reasons.
