Front splitter on GTR
Discussion
Sorry, my mistake ( forgot you were talking Micky Mouse money )
The hydraulic hardware is indeed built to fit the Nitron shock but guess what I discovered whilst speaking to Aurok, my Ohlins supplier; They both share the same 46 X 1.5 body/thread size!
Reckon I will be paying SSS a visit in the not to distant

I can't see how this was unexpected. It's a US self build car, no EU presence, no real knowledge of SVA/IVA so there was bound to be problems.
I'm pretty sure this was mentioned when Craig was weighing up the SLC or GTR and he accepted the risks, but I guess it depends what Fran told him.
Whatever, what he's ended up with looks stunning.

To go back to the front splitter that started this thread, would adding a light piece of sheet metal under it keep the splitter in good shape a bit longer, or that's just a silly idea and not worth it?
Most see the splitter made of plywood as sacrificial so that an impact will take lumps out of it rather than damaging the clip.Skinning it with sheet metal will remove some of that function.

What part of the splitter is doing the most work?
I have never fitted one as I don't like the reduced opening of the front clip.
So, if most of the work is being done by the splitter closing the underside of the wheel arches then I could have a splitter with only a small front lip.
If the front lip is the bit doing the work them I'm back where I started unless I raise the ride height.

what reduded opening of front clip... my ride height is 110 mm and clip opens all the way up???I have never fitted one as I don't like the reduced opening of the front clip.

On mine with the clip open there is 30mm from clip to floor.
Steve
I made mine protrude 75mm from the lip that is already there, I think that is roughly standard. It does restrict the amount you can open by, but it is enough to get to the brake/clutch res., washer and battery. By drilling and moving the pivot point you can use the same stay as well.

So why dont you fix the front splitter perminently to the chassis and hindge the front Clip seperatly....
Yes and for all of you that havn't met him thats GTW him self on the left...
Also having the splitter fixed means you can join it to the side splitters and contour around the front wheel travel, to make a more complete flat floor....
