I would not buy anything from Iguakarz ... they are the Malay version of a bunch of Del Boy's ....

Went to have a look at a few Beemers (similar to that list ...) first one was badged up as a 325i and the guy is selling it as such so ok thinks i ... hop in and start it up ears ... that sounds like a 4 pot under there .... readit look at the log book thingy and its a 316i irked

So next one ... geezer proudly tells me "lowered, sports suspension" ... so i give it a bounce and "klunk" confused so i full lock the wheel and look into the hole to see broken coil springs, both sides yikes

cunch of bunts.

I was in a similar position to you a few months back and John did try his best to talk me into buying a car also but after consideration I settled on this nice beauty !

Especially trying to direct them to take you to or pick you up from Tuas South of an evening.
If I wasn't going to be working odd hours I'd probably stick to cabs but there's nothing worse than having to wait 40 mins or more for a cab after a 14hr day!

The GT4 is the same one i looked at a few months back, but I can't bring myself to spend that sort of moeny on a car even if it is a potential classic and then importing back to the UK.

Rather Save my pennies for when I get back !

As you mentioned working odd hours have you considered a Off Peak Car (OPC) ? these red-plated cars can be used only from 7pm to 7am on weekdays, and after 3pm on Saturdays, and for the full day on Sundays and public holidays. You also do have the option to use with an additional fee for periods outside those quoted ?

Cheers

I know what you're saying, and the sensible part of me agrees.... it's the evil petrolhead evil sat on my shoulder with his fork that's doing my head in!
not sure why, but I've named him John whistle

When I said odd, I meant it... For example next week I'll probably be doing my usual 07:30 to 18:30 for a couple of days then three 15:00 - 03:00 then some 03:00 to 15:00's all of which would mean I was having to pay the extra charge on an OPC car making it not the bargain it first appears. Why can't life be simple?banghead

I agree with you 100%, the petrolhead in me wants to buy a car also.

I justified as follows :

A. If I catch a cab everyday to work for 2 years it only costs me around 9k, whereas I would spend considerably more on the car, plus taxes, COE, petrol, ERP etc !

B. Decided to learn to ride a bike, maybe in a few months time, I'll have passed and be roaring round on a wait for 200cc max. type of bike !

C. Save the pennies here means a better car for when I get back to the UK !

Trust me i spent many months arguing and trying to persuade myself of the logic and the need for a car.

From the timings you mention it would save you money if you worked to the 7 pm limit, it is only around 16 sgd for use outside those times.

I know there's a angel on one shoulder and a devil on the other !!

It works out around S$50 day for me to get to work and back in a taxi or I can hire an older Nissan Sunny or such for around the same price + servicing on a 1 year deal or I can buy something with a little more soul, have my daily transport and sell it on before I leave..... Too tough to decide, I'm off to the pub!!

OPC cars are a bd to sell on second hand, they loose so much value its not funny ... black plates are still best option for a one or two year flip.

BTW EJ, you will have to try coming out to the Jungle for a few beers, Happy gave me a call this morning to say that he was thirsty, 7 hours later and too many juts of beer in Changi and he had had a spin in a cosworth powered 350Z, and met with a lot of nutters, all for a surprisingly low fee!!!

I suspect that he will be back, if you can handle the extra milage on your Toyota Crown, we will probably be doing the same again soon, fancy joining?

I am feeling worryingly healthy this morning actually, took the dog for a drag along the boardwalk this morning .... perhaps i should rename her "cigarette" ....

The engine, under bonnet bits and labour came to $sg60k

Then there is the exhaust, diff, brake upgrade, wheel upgrade ... but he recons that with hindsight if you find an early 350z with a boxed engine, the whole conversion plus car could be done for less than $150k all in ...

Thats not bad for 400+ BHP and making a TVR sound like a pussycat!!

remember its still not yet fully tuned!!!!

eta - actually the murano uses the same engine ...... ultimate street sleeper???
