Moving on..Anyone heard of pink triangle turntables? Was telling a guy at work about this old hi-fi gear and it turns out he is quite an enthusiast! He still has a pink triangle turntable which cost him quite a bit several years ago.

Seems they are still going..

Bit late this, but anyway... I've got one, bought ex-demo with what I earned as an intern working for a newspaper back in 1988... Have some Funk Firm bits on it (Achromat & carbon fibre/balsa laminate armboard) and just finished converting it to the motor set up of the later (and highly sought after) Anniversary edition.

With a Nottingham Analogue Ace Space tonearm, it more than holds its own in the current system which I just built around £14K (new) Avantgarde horns... eek

I'm glad of the thread resurrection. I took this picture of an Akai tuner I acquired from my father back in the summer and then forgot to post it up.

I haven't used it in a long time, but I was pleased to see all the lights and gauges come on when I plugged it in for the first time in years.
Splendid reassuringly positive switches and dials compared to todays light touch buttons.

My Dad has just upgraded, he's had a Technics set up that I remember him bringing home in the Ford Cortina eek, I'll try get some pics whenI'm next there if he still has it. Massive behemoth it is, turntable, amp, tape deck, CD player and radio, matched with Wharfedale floor standing speakers. I think he still proudly states we were the first on our street to have a CD player!!
Sounds great! Would be nice to get some snaps of it mate if you can smile

Akai unit looks lovely! Know what you mean re: the dials etc.I love the healthy but dampened *CLICK* from the Pioneer stuff I have when you turn a dial. You at least feel like you have achieved something and are involved in some way when they make a noise and feel that way.My Yamaha amps feel like you could just breath on them to change settings.

My friend will be glad to hear this.I am sure he thought he was the only person left still singing their praises hehe As for the rest of the system, that must be mind-alteringly good! bow

Nice collection but mostly very mundane sounding equipment from what I can see.

Real audiophiles have collection like this:

I run a pair of Castle Winchester Speakers (http://www.gramophone.net/Issue/Page/April%201991/167/804457/CASTLE+WINCHESTER+LOUDSPEAKER) from 1991, photo nicked from Google images below. Amongst the best speakers I've heard, including outragously high end stuff.

They are massive and referred to as "The Coffins", and are a transmission line design with an additional upwards firing driver.

^^^^^ Oooooh I like them. But they look as if you need a good sized room to crank them up. No good in my small room.

My 3020 finally gave up the ghost about a month ago having been my house amp, then garage amp. Had it about 15 years, sounded great. I was gutted binning it but it was beyond repair.

Celestion Ditton 15XR's.Have to say, for 70's speakers, the clarity is just wonderful! I am also going to pick up another set at the weekend, although they are the earlier 15 model and not the XR version.

Like the Ditton 15XRs ~ great speakers thumbup Doped paper is still to be beaten as a cone material.

I recently got this classic spinner- 1985 vintage- a Sony 502ES. It sounds great, and is built like a tank- all metal case/drawer mech and high-end components inside.

My Dad had a set of those, great sounding speakers. Not sure where they went as they disappeared whilst I was away at university. I came home at Christmas to find all the separates gone and a Kenwood midi system sitting in it's place!!

I have a set of these still in use. Great speakers, though sadly the tweeter on one of them is beginning to go.

Precursor to the Howard and Harlech, we listened to both of those and the Avon.
We bought the Avon, just down to personal choice. No, a carbon fibre (PH relevance) coned main driver did not influence us. Castle are back in production now, albeit as part of IAG.
