It sounds really promising with the new Q Acoustics but would really benefit from some speaker stands.
I've always wondered why Pioneer integrated the tape, amp and equaliser but nothing else. Maybe tape was considered the future back in 1989 or whenever.
I suspect the Technics cabinets are the real value in this package.

My 1991 Sony ES project system so far. The brief was to put together a system of ES components from around the same period with matching branding but without spending the ££££ of the very top components. Recent new components include a fully working (for now!) DAT player and a multi-play CD. Next steps will be to replace the Cassette deck and then fashion side cheeks. Sony speakers would be nice but the Neats work well with this stack so not entirely necessary. Loving this lockdown project and the sound/ build quality of these ES components.
Lovely Sony system
I’ve got a small Teac 500 system in the garage with AE109 floorstanders which I picked up for relative pennies years ago. It even came with the matching glass rack with gold legs. I keep spotting things like the tape deck and MD player for less than £100 and hover over the ‘buy it now’ button but I have no cassettes and no MD discs and just know they’d be powered up once every 6 years just so they look nice on the rack!
There were some stunning systems produced in the late 80s by the big Jap players (until their financial crash). Astounding build and sound quality from the likes of Pioneer, Nakamichi and Rotel but my favourite has to be the Yamaha centennial gear with the NS 10000X speakers (complete with 15” carbon bass drivers). Never even laid eyes on it never mind actually hearing it!
It has its own website: http://www.yamaha10000.com/
Lottery win required naturally. And that’s if you can find someone to part with it. The only system I’ve ever seen up for sale was £40,000 and that sale was cancelled when the seller had a change of mind.

I own the CX-10000 preamplifier. It's astonishingly good, particularly the inbuilt DACs. I really, really want an HX-10000 phono stage yet but going rate seems to be around £6000 for one, currently, which is too spendy for me.I’ve got a small Teac 500 system in the garage with AE109 floorstanders which I picked up for relative pennies years ago. A few more things I picked up along the way since I started this thread.
The images have vanished from earlier posts.
Nice to see people are still dabbling.
Very nice, I've some E50's I've had for many years now, hooked upto an Icon Audio valve amp/ phono pre amp and a turntable. Happy days. The images have vanished from earlier posts.

Have you tried a search on hifishark for an HX-10000?

Yes I've got a few irons in the fire on that front after I missed an HX-10000 in Germany last year that was 'only' £3000 or so. Go the whole hog :

The whole system is very alluring but I don't need the power amp as I use active loudspeakers and I vowed a few years back that I'd buy one of the CD players when they dropped below £1000 - the cheapest one I've ever seen went for £1018 on eBay and now they're increasing in price again!
What makes it worse is that I only paid £495 for the preamp...

Here's my parent's Pioneer DC-Z82 integrated amp, equaliser and tape deck. The tuner is a F-Z92L, turntable PPL-Z82 and CD PD-Z82M.
Just back from being refreshed at a local hifi specialist. My mother gave the original Pioneer speakers away (!) as they were too large so I sourced a pair of Q Acoustics 2010i. Even with the slightly dodgy speaker placement the system sounds good to my ears.
I don't know much about this system other than it cost a pretty penny back in the early 90s I think. Does anyone know much about it? Also, any ideas on it's current value with the Technics cabinets?
I'm no expert, but as a late 80's child born into a family where this sort of thing was appreciated, I absolutely remember stack like that being not at all out of place in the living room.Just back from being refreshed at a local hifi specialist. Most systems have reduced and modernised, if only to a smaller and newer collection of singles, but that really does take me back 20 years!

Great thread!
I’ve got a Teac reference 500 system, mission speakers and rack that’s been sat in a spare bedroom for 10 years.. I never sell old hifi - got a dual cs505 in the loft along with an Arcam 9/9p and an original Audiolab amp and various other tuners, take deck etc. I keep being told it’s time to clear out the loft…
