Lefty, that's an awesome set-up mate, going for the Big Mack kit would be a backward step IMO
unless it's the looks you're after...

ETA, if you go into your local one, ask what they have out the back too...I used to volunteer in the Kettering shop and there was always pairs of speakers out the back as they did not really know how to price them. I got a pair of Wharfedale Glendales for £3.75 with my staff discount!

The Axis and the Tannoys are well worth keeping. Any Dual Concentric Tannoys are sought after and the Axis is Linn's under acknowledged gem.

It's an Icon Audio MC34, which is a UK designed but Chinese produced version of the classic 'Stereo 20' format using EL34 tubes.

Also have a Stereo 60 version, which really shifts some air wink
I have no Idea what you just said there, how or if I would use it it, but I WANT that thing with the Valves.

Bloody PH...... costs me a fortune !
laugh Trust me - play some well recorded close miked accoustic or vocal material over it and there will be no going back wink

....
My mum worked in various charity shops over the years, and they too wouldn't touch electrical stuff.

She too said "they weren't allowed to sell them" but I suspect it was probably an easy excuse to use, as I would imagine that any electrical goods they sell would require a PAT test at the very least, which as others have pointed out is probably not worth it for them.

Odd thing is, there's a 2nd hand HiFi shop near me, and none of the kit they sell is formally tested AFAIK.
why have you quoted my post? you haven't added anything or contradicted me. your Mum believed what she was told.

ermm, I quoted your post as I responded quite a few posts after it (with a few pictures in between), and was simply trying to keep in context.

And given that many on here only read the most recent post, my post on it's own would have lacked any meaning...

You have a problem with that?

I have 3 minidisc players, two portables, one old for when I'm working alone and a nice one for other times and a alpine head unit in my landrover, would like a proper Hifi separate too.
Nice to see another MD fan. I've got a 3 disc machine in the car, a full size hifi separate indoors, at least 3 portables lying about, and god knows how many discs!

I remember selling them at Sony, and always having a demo disc in my pocket. i used to chuck it about to prove they were tougher than CDs and then play them back in what ever machine I was demoing.

I think I had 70 mins of random music, from Queen and Tubular Bells to The prodigy and Faithless!

Great thread!

I pulled a Pioneer SX-590 receiver out of a skip with a seized tuning knob, freed off easily. I hook my iPhone up to the aux in and it drives some lovely period Castle Richmond speakers via mains cable speaker wire.

I also have one of these Pioneer Tx-606 tuners for sale if anyone wants it:

Lovely.I almost bought that tuner a week or so ago after seeing one for sale.I had a tuner already, but it looked nicer with the amp. However, I was bidding on a Technics tuner at the time to replace my original one in the pics at the start of the thread as that too looked nicer.I won it!.Now, having two tuners, I saw another on ebay that was quite specific for my amp made my Pioneer, so am now bidding on that lol.

Coming to an on-line auction house near you in the next week or so:

A Teac V5000 casette player - lovely bit of kit, xompletelu unmarked, probably £500+ when new; I'd imagine it'll make about £30 (sod it, I think I'll keep it)

A Cyrus One amp, in bits, needs a volume pot (no longer available from Cyrus) so for spares/maybe repair, as they say...
