Replacing Prontos with......what?
Discussion
I've got three Pronto 9600s that are slowly dying, and obviously they're no longer being made.
So, what are my options to replace them? I'm not looking at the Crestron end of the market.
It needs to control Sky boxes, and amp through RS232, an HD matrix by IR and it needs to link in to my Squeezebox setup.
Any thoughts chaps?

Are you looking to program yourself? I only ask as Pronto was easy with software openly available but most of the current brands require (at least initially) dealer setup.
Ideally, yes.JimbobVFR said:
I'm surprised yours are reaching end of life
I'm having issues with touchscreens giving up, batteries needing replacing, buttons sticking etc etc. They're about 5 years old, and in truth they were never absolutely brilliant even when new.Are you happy with iPad/iPhone/Android only or do you need a physical remote?
If happy then check out www.globalcache.co.uk and some of the apps such as Roomie Remote, iRule etc.. all very good but tablet/phone only.
If you want the physical remote then your options are reduced if you want to DIY it. RTI and the more basic Pro Control are both great, physical remote and iPad/Phone etc, relatively well priced but it's dealer only.

This is what I did.
We use a dedicated iPad and iRule HD, pushing IR signals to the kit via a Global Cache iTach IP to IR.
Do the apps like irule or roomie have an option to open an app as part of a macro or sequence? TBH I'd be very surprised if Orange Squeeze on Android or iPeng on iOS weren't vastly superior to the Prontoscript app on the remote.
While I'm still not convinced a tablet is as good to use as a remote as a dedicated device like a Pronto, control of a Squeezebox is excellent with the various apps available. I can imagine if I had your Pronto I'd still use my Nexus 7 and Orange Squeeze.

The bit that seems to be missing here is the integration with the Squeezeboxes. At the moment one button turns on the multiroom amp (via RS232) and then loads the ProntoSqueeze interface on the remote. It'd be a shame to lose that.
You can still do that, albeit the Squeeze would be controlled via infrared not IP. You can control the AVR with infrared or RS232 as well depending on what you want to do.http://www.roomieremote.com/forums/topic/can-i-con...
