Just to add some balance to this...

Ive had Sky Q for a while (first roleout), have the silver box and two mini-boxes. Installation was very through (was here all morning), and other than having to re-set boxes very periodically (4-5 times max) i've had no problems whatsoever. Much better than the old system, and changes the way we watch tv...

I reverted my mini to wifi and it behaved much better for almost 24 hours - less dropouts. Previously (Ethernet) I was getting a connection problem every 5 to 10 minutes. Unwatchable.

On wifi there was an occasional hiccup until this evening when it came up with a proximity error. Rebooted several times and got a mixture of errors. Watched successfully for maybe 20 minutes then it started dropping out again. Then technical fault. 4 power cycles of both boxes later and it's back.

Going to call them tomorrow and they can send an engineer. If they can't get the mini reliable then I will just cancel it. Shame really, when it works it is excellent, but I have spent close to 3 hours to watch a single 1 hour recording on my mini tonight.

Same for me... installed day 3 of launch, and other than a reboot once a month or so, no problems

Are other people's Silver boxes fairly loud, especially with the HDD searching? Just moved it from downstairs to where the 4k TV is and it's a smaller quieter room so it's audible from a good 10 feet away. The HDD spinning is fine it's in the same room as my office where I have a MBP and a fair few HDD's spinning, but I can hear the knocking even now. Granted it is recording/downloading.

Just wondering if it's something that has been improved in later boxes or if they're all like it.

You might.. Sky & Discovery are in dispute over renewing their contract. Discovery (& Eurosport) threatening to go off air from the 1st.

They're doing the same with Sky in Germany and recently did it with a Norwegian broadcaster too.

Thread here - http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... about it.

Yeah - thousands of people appear to be contacting them complaining that they're not going to be able to watch Alaskan Cake Baking, Oil Drilling, Tyre Smokin' Gold Miners or something..

Discovery are pretty pathetic trying to twist the viewers arms, if I was Sky I'd turn their channels off until they removed the messages. Discovery are asking for more money probably to make more reality TV drivel.

Sometimes on switch on we get a blank screen (on the mini) with a programme in the mini viewer and all else black. A reboot solves it but is it common.

That should be fixed in the next update - not sure of a release date yet though.
