I believe in giving credit where it's due and this morning Richer Sounds have exceeded my expectations...

I have recently bought a samsung UE40F5500. Apparently the picture isn't as good as Panasonic, but as an upgrade from a 27" CRT I don't really notice. The far bigger screen outweighs the loss of detail clarity that the CRT had.

What does make a difference is the smart hub in the Samsung. I've connected both the TV and Amp with ethernet to the router, and can now access netflix, iplay 4OD etc etc directly from the TV. I have also set up a small NAS, and can also play all my recordings via the router, with spotify etc available to the amp. There's a good android/apple app to control the Denon amp with which makes life easy.

The TV will record to USB as well, but I've lost the twin tuners I had with my old freeview/DVR box. I have a small bedroom TV that records to USB as well so I can use that if I need to.
That was November 2013.
The TV slowly developed a black smudge in the corner of the screen, and on Monday morning, when I found the paperwork for the free 5 year warranty, I rang Richer Sounds.
Yesterday a repair company arrived to take it away.
This morning they rang to advise that Richer Sounds had deemed it uneconomic to repair.
This morning I was called by the manager of the local store, to advise that my new replacement was ready for collection.

It isn't just that Richer Sounds have stood by their warranty and replaced new for old, but the speed of response by them and their agents has been amazing. 48hrs. Well done.

I once had an issue with them and it was resolved by Julian Richer himself. It was textbook customer care, I only wish more places acted like this.

Good to hear. I'll be in the market for a new telly soon so I'll give them a try.

Same. Plus it's fun as heck because it's probably the only place left on the high street where you can actually barter. The one in Solihull is great.

His book though a few years old now is an interesting read. Plenty of lessons on how to run a business and motivate staff.

+1, bought my TV from them after some really good help from a knowledgeable sales guy. I wasn't after the most expensive thing in the shop, in fact more the lower end of their market perhaps but it felt like he gave me as much of his time as if I was after something 10x more expensive. It was a breath of fresh after standing on front of a hundred TV's in currys.

I then had no hesitation in buying my av receiver from them online. Also, I think I found it cheaper elsewhere, sent them a cheeky email as had already paid for it and they price matched it. May even have beaten it and refunded the difference immediately.

No hesitation buying anything from them in future.

Bought all my home cinema stuff from them, price beat my surround sound equipment, then price beat my TV AND beat it again when it dropped further after buying it.

Warranty is of course excellent too, don't think I'd shop anywhere else for AV stuff.

I used to be Manager of the Cheltenham Store back in the day. In a market where everything was switching to online sales, customer service was and clearly still is king for Richer sounds.

Plus Julian is a really nice guy, the initial training was held at his house in York and we had free run of it, cinema room, bar, games room, pool. It was excellent!

Not read it but he gave a talk at college when I was a student, a million years ago, regaling us of tales of buying a Rolls when he made his first million, deciding it was a bit poncey for him & instead of selling it, gave it to the best performing branch for a month at a time. His general attitude & demeanour made me seriously think about working for him for a while.

Bought my first record player and amp from the Bristol store in 1986/87 and enjoyed the whole experience so much (mainly by being treated as a proper customer despite being a scruffy 16-year-old, most HiFi shops wouldn't touch you with a barge pole) that I have since bought all of my HiFi kit at various RS outlets over the past 30 years.
I'm amazed they are still going in this age of online shopping, but very pleased that they are.

All, bar one, of my last six TV's have been purchased from Richer Sounds. Excellent company to deal with and actually make you feel like you are a valued customer.

What about the odd one I hear you ask? It was the first of the six and the TV it replaced conked out when Richer Sounds weren't open and John Lewis had the same TV and matched Richer Sounds price. Simples!

You'd think he could afford something newer biggrinevilwink

But seriously, I totally agree with the other favourable postings about Richer Sounds, been using them for well over 30 years. Great company to deal with.

Another thumbup for Richer Sounds

Bought an AV amp from them, developed a fault a year out of warranty. Dumped it at the local tip.

Ended up buying a new one from RS, when I was asked if I wanted to buy a 5 year warranty I mentioned the previous AMPs failure.

Sales guy said it was a common and known problem on that particular model. Apologised, knocked about £100 of the one I was buying and slapped a 5 year warranty on it!

Julian Richer used to take the high performing staff on a ski trip every year, in a staffed super posh chalet. We're talking four poster beds in every room, heated outdoor pool, Landrover to the slopes etc At the end of the week, he would tip the chalet staff 500 Euros each. They were happy. I shared a brandy with him one evening there, nice bloke.

There are many "Julians" who know how to treat staff well. read a story about a oriental guy who spent over 3/4 Million taking staff and their family on a mega 5 star holiday .

I have purchased many things and always recommend them . As mentioned, get to know the staff and they "look after you" :-)

+1 for Richer Sounds.

I wouldn't buy hi-fi equipment from anyone else.

AV amp had a fault after 18 months. Straight back to the shop, loan amp in the boot of the car, fixed for free and back in a few weeks. Delightful staff.
